Title: Mobile field shelters
Post by: Jethro Tull on August 24, 2014, 10:42:14 pm
I am thinking of buying one, and having it erected by the suppliers. Does anyone have any recommendation both as to quality and as to price? Yes I know that at the very least I should erect it myself, if not construct it myself, but in order to make a proper cost/benefit assessment I would be interested to know other people's experience of the commercial market.

mines from harvest services. On wheels so I can tow it easily around the field or if I move grazing. Its fantastic quality. No damage after 9 years of being abused by horses and sheep rubbing on it, and blown over twice! Not cheap but a good investment, it came erected on a trailer. There something about planning in some areas....ok if comes erected but can be erected on site?

i have been working on some ideas to build them, simply because, each different breed will need something different, for example, the goats shelter will have doors on, as the sheep or calfs will be open fronted,

the biggest problem is getting the construction right to be strong enough to move, i am hedging more to a sliding design , than wheels

One problem with a sliding design is if your fields are at all bumpy. The structure can easily twist as it is being pulled unless it is phenomenally well made. You then find that doors no longer close as it doesn't go back to square afterwards.
