Well, the nights are fair drawing in etc. ;)
Normally our girls just get fresh water every morning (warm if necessary), but we do sometimes have to go away for a day or two, and it's no good if everything freezes whilst we're gone!
Any ingenious solutions out there, to what must be an age old problem?

leave a dripping hose on, even if it freezes during the night its likely to start dripping again by mid morning if its in the sun.. if you could bury the hose or cover it with sacks that would help a lot, it might still freeze in jan/ feb but not always.

put some tennis balls in a bucket of water then they can still get to the water if it freezes.

That didn't work in Aberdeenshire - the tennis balls froze in. Bloomin hard frosts we got up there! Glad I'm 150 miles South! ;D ;D ;D

I'm sure it was once suggested a few drops of cooking oil should stop it freezing?
