The third Festival will be held on Saturday 27th September at Lanark Agricultural Centre.
We're delighted to have a new and very special addition to our livestock show - the RBST Scottish Youngstock Championship - animals born in 2014 (or goats 12 months old or less at the date of the Festiival) that are registered or eligible for registration and are from breeds that are, or have been, on the RBST Watchlist. RBST will also be supporting classes for older stock in these categories.
The champion sheep, goat, calf and pig will go head to head (though not literally) to compete for the overall Championship, which will be judged by Peter Titley, President of RBST.
The new Festival website will be live soon, with more information, schedules and entry forms so we hope that you'll be joining us in September.

I can't wait, have totally reorganised our whole lives so we can come.
-
I'll be there. Let me know if i can do anything to help beforehand - will probably be helping to man the Central Scotland Smallholders stand on the day.

Sorry folks, I will be going to Masham Sheep Fair this year. You were supposed to be doing Lanark / North / Lanark / North, and be North this year so I wouldn't feel guilty! But I've always wanted to do Masham and never have made it yet, so this is the year.
Y'all have a wunnerful time, y'hear
-
got annual leave booked in so we will be there
-
I've got as TAS badge - I'm going to wear it - and maybe put a sticky label on my jacket with my TAS name

Good idea! Maybe we could make a wee TAS meet point beside the CSSA stand?

Sorry - both venues have car boot sales on Sunday so aren't available to hire.

We'll miss you :'( Yeah, the North was the Gathering in May - but it didn't quite work, so Lanark in September it is. Every year ;D

I have just bought my TAS badge, so you will know I am TAS forum member. ;D You will know I am the wannabee as I'll be walking around looking clueless and be 'amazed' at everything. Fingers crossed we can make it :excited:

or my tas jumper has my name on it which i will also have on...
-
We were so looking forward to this after the Spring Gathering, but my rota falls so I'm on call that weekend, and 4 hours is a bit too far to cover emergencies! In other circumstances I may have been able to swap, but its the new vet's first week so I'm tied in for the next few weeks.
Hope you all have a cracking day, and we'll be there next year

Got my badge too, don't think it'll be warm enough for the t shirt ( can't actually fit in it now anyway) Really looking forward to it. Been to Lanark a couple of times with Goosepimple but can't remember the way so better dig the sat-nav out.

Gathered the sheep today - big sort out - chosen few in wee paddock, trailer at gate and hopefully start my trip at 10am tomorrow - yes my landy is very slow but will hopefully make it
-
Anyone from Penrith / Carlisle / Hexham area going? Only we've a taker for one of Tiva Diva's Portland fleeces down this way, and I can't be at the Festival myself this year, sadly.
-
John Sutcliffe in the pigs and Joanne Fisher (Coloured Ryelands) are from down that way. I'm sure one of them would be able to help.
-
Just looked at the whole event list.
Big mistake.
IT LOOKS UTTERLY AMAZING AND I HAVE A STAND TO MAN!!!! I'm so very sad I can't go to talks and demonstrations. You even have the author of Fauna Scotica!!
Massive respect and congratulations to everyone who was involved in setting up your events list, I can't think of a single event I've ever been at where I've been so incredibly jealous of all the festival-goers.
Have fun tomorrow everybody xx

Great to meet you too, Ben and Jerry!
And thanks also to Kim, on Facebook for my new quail gentleman - except hat he's no gentleman :innocent: - jumped on my wee girl's back twice as soon as I put the cardboard box in the pen - he escaped and got at it straight away! :roflanim:
-
what a great day :) had a lovely time volunteering and listening to some great talks-also got to meet Rosemary  and although I didn't do a lot of shopping, I did manage to come home with a silkie cockerel :-[ ;D
thanks-I think its a great event and would be very happy to help next year.
-
What a fab time I had today at the festival. :) Defo helped with some idea's, I fell in love with the kune's and the small goats (pgymy?). Great to meet doganjo :) And I'm sure another lady said podanmo? Plus a couple from stranrear. Hunted high and low for Rosemary and Dan, but never saw you. :(
As a wannabee, this defenitely helped me today. :)
-
Had a really good day out today. So many talks to go in to, we didn't manage to say hi to folks. We very nearly didn't get lunch!
Thanks to everyone who put the effort in.

had a terrific time every year gets better and nice to see more rare breeds. again less traders than before. but still managed to spend money.
-
Me and the better half travelled down to Lanark yesterday and just about returned with 2 ducklings.
We had a great day and we chatted to some lovely people who were all very helpful.
Enjoyed watching some of the sheep judging, having a look round everything and attending the presentation on Bee Keeping - very interesting given that the chap had to stand in at the last minute. Finding a local keeping course is now on our list of things to do.
We also had a really nice and useful chat with Janice and the ladies manning the Ryeland stand and they were full of very useful help and advice to the questions that we asked them.
I also had a really good chat with Bill Walker from the Crookmakers Association - asking qu's following on from his talk last year.
Sadly we couldn't get to the Tweed Valley presentation but we chatted with the chap earlier in the day.
There were fewer stands but there was still plenty to see and do.
Well done to all the organisers - another great show.
-
the Tweed Valley guy was great, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable
-
Good Heavens - how did all you bright sparks manage to write on TAS last night after the show? I was knackered when we got home, and we only live a few miles away ::)
It was a great day and the atmosphere was so friendly and upbeat. There were some beautiful animals there of all species - I just wish I'd had time to see more, but it's always the price you pay for showing. I didn't do more than hear the poultry and cattle, never had time to look :( I did get to try out the rigid heddle loom which I was pleased about, and bought a giant log basket for the firewood. Oh and we got a free Scots Pine from the Woodland Trust, and they will visit to give advice on our woody and hedgy bits.
Now to look forward to next year's show. I have already started to write up some notes on feedback (typical me ::) ) but I'll wait til Rosemary, Dan, Martin and Karen have had time to draw breath after yesterday's big do.
-
Another wonderfully day - big thank you to all the organising team. If I could make one wee suggestion, maybe just me as my brain gets older but I couldn't track too easily what was happening when - in fact I think I missed a couple of classes altogether, so would it be possible in the future to put up a notice board ringside, have a big list of what is going to be on in the ring, in the order they are going in and score them off when done - this way possibly the steward would only have to score off and not be bombarded with questions.
-
Gotcha, Brucklay. We're going to have a board or use the big red light sign above the rings next year.
-
That was thing. In Ring 1 at least the tannoy announcement couldn't be heard so there was no notice of what was happening, like you got in the Symington (sp?) suite.
You should also offer a cloning service, so many talks to go to and the showing and only one body, that was the hardest bit! :innocent:
Dans
-
i would personally sign up to be cloned for the day, 1 of me to volunteer and 1 of me to go listen to other stuff...
we really need PA in ring 1 for some of the speakers to be heard better...
ring 2 seemed better as the audience tended to be smaller (checked with mrs b)
-
To be honest PA system however loud would not help me, my hearing is so bad in a hall like that with the people and animal sounds I have to be looking at someone to hear them and then there could be announcements trying to be heard over announcements hence the visual board - ok not so good for folks needing glasses but it could have big writing
-
sorry i meant demonstration ring 1 (the normal sale ring) not the showing rings to clarify my thoughts...
-
Here's an idea - could the speakers maybe be asked do two slots each - one in the morning, one in the afternoon - so if they clashed with another speaker then people could still hear both?
-
Thanks to all who helped make it such a brilliant day! Not just the organisers and volunteers but people like the lovely lady who lent her white coat to my friend when it was obvious that my Portlands needed one-to-one handling. I think boards for the show rings showing classes and timings would be a huge help.
The only thing that let it down for me (again) was the catering. There aren't many shows now where you can't get a decent cup of real coffee, or a pint of beer for that matter. I could have done with both, and heard other people saying so, too. Rosemary, I know Lanark have conditions about catering, and it's not your fault, but can you lean on them?
My only other suggestion for next year would be a sheep agility class, cos my ewe lamb would win it feet down - and up, and sideways ;D
Anyway, we'll be back next year, but with a picnic!
-
I really enjoyed my day, though had hoped for more trade stands.. but then I only ever get to go shopping at shows so that's maybe just me LOL!
I thought the catering was fab, I had a great breakfast and a very big lunch - both in the Cafe, I didn't need dinner when I got home that was for sure! :yum:
More poultry classes please.. :D
-
We had a good day I muddled through a the pig show think it all worked out in the end, very tired afterwards once again Katie my daughter helped me greatly. My Bantams did well in the show getting a first with my Scots Grey cock and a first with my Scots Dumpy hen also second and third for our eggs. Met a few old friends lots of folks with red coats that were not known to me. I missed nearly every talk due to me gabbing and forgetting the time. What big ears the donkey has and the Swiss sheep were something different. Katie is talking about showing sheep god help me. At the pig show maybe a list of the classes for the spectators to see and an announcement verbally of which class is actually happening. Note to myself Must do better.
-
<<< Met a few old friends lots of folks with red coats that were not known to me >>>
I'm hopeless with putting names to faces, and TAS IDs just make it more difficult. Could the red coats wear badges with their names on, including TAS names where appropriate? I think I must miss friends from on here because I don't know what they look like. Same for those not in red coats too of course.
-
This is true- I've not met Fleecewife yet (as far as I know), though I did clock Mr FW this year when he presented the trophy.
I thought the catering was ok- bacon roll was fine in the morning, but I didn't have any coffee there- I might have been tempted if there had been nice coffee though. Lunch was ok, but really the quality wasn't anything like the judges and officials lunches at Thainstone, which was lovely. I think it was the veg with the main course which was so disappointing- and there we were at a smallholder and grower event!
-
i accept its beyond dan and rosemarys control, but as ever the sausages there are the worst...

I never eat sausage anywhere but home. It's the rule. ;D
-
Sounds wonderful once again. I was so sorry to have missed it, having teeth pulled was definitely not a good alternative, but when I definitely make it next year, I will have very straight teeth.

Love it!
Could you have a TAS meeting point? Coz I kinda pounce on people! :roflanim: I was the loon in the totally practical pink coat. :roflanim:
As a complete, 'no idea what I would see and find at the festival' I thought I would be able to stock up on all your food? Like sausages? Or was I being inexperienced? You know rare breed pork, goats cheese etc? I say again, I had a fab time :)
-
Rosemary - is there a list of the prize winners across the board somewhere? That would be really helpful and interesting..........
