Title: Do cockerels get more agressive with age?
Post by: northfifeduckling on May 16, 2014, 05:57:56 pm
My cockerel was always a gentle and chilled fellow, now I find that I have to shield him from the ducks in the morning or he'll charge at one or the other. It's only started this spring, so I'm not sure if that's normal with age?

He's no longer a spring chicken (going on 6 or 7 now)  ;) and he'd never bothered the ducks before or got annoyed by them....

have his hens shunned him? can he no longer get them to submit on demand? is there another cockerel threatening his dominance?

no, he's on his own and seems to get some in the mornings, no changes there. Spends most of the day with some of his girls...

Mine gets more aggressive daily and is very free range so not frustrated. He is being culled tho as my legs cant take any more spur holes.
