I was convinced I would see triplets or possibly quads... But no, a normal sized single yesterday evening last thing. I'm not kidding she was almost as wides as long. No evidence of placenta, but when I came back an hour after first I saw her eating something slimey - could she have eaten the afterbirth?
-
She certainly could have done - some ewes seem to relish a good old chew on their afterbirth!

Good as long as that's possible... I don't want to go looking for problems, but part of me can't believe that was all that was in her and is concerned to make sure everything is out that ought to be out, including unborn dead lambs. Keeping a close eye, but all seems well, thanks

I have watched Lleyns eat the afterbirth before it has cleansed properly forming a slightly amusing/grotesque 'loop'.
Most of my sheep (a few are pure Lleyn, a lot have Lleyn blood in them) eat the afterbirth, my pastures are pretty clean.

Yep - that's what they do! Yummy.

gone right off my breakfast!!!
animals are so delightful!!!

I remember my science teacher telling us about the nutritional benefits of eating placenta. He said they cooked and ate their child's placenta :unwell: still turns my stomach at the thought of it :unwell:

I was recently watching a programme on home births.the husband saved the placenta and was taking it to his friend, a chef, for cooking. Ah well, each to their own :roflanim:
