Hello! We are about to fulfil our dream and will be viewing a couple of smallholdings in Carmarthenshire shortly, with a view to having chickens, pigs and sheep, getting back into horse owning and setting up some wildlife hides.
There seem to be lots of you in the area, so I look forward to meeting some of you at some stage, and picking your brains for advice. ;D
-
I am in Talley, Carmarthenshire. I have been here a couple of years and love it.
Do let us know how you get on.
-
Will do, thanks, Bionic.
-
Hello from near Llandeilo
With you on the wildlife front (amongst other things) - keep us posted
-
We were at Llandeilo looking at a place (not suitable) and helping a friend with lambing last weekend ;D Beautiful area!
-
Another of the Carmarthenshire mob here.
By all means get in touch if you think I can help
-
That is a very kind offer, Henchard, thank you.
-
 hello from Powys
-
 hello - from somewhere in the carmarthen / newcastle emlyn / llandysul triangle
-
 and welcome from Shropshire, which is almost in Wales. ;D
-
Very many thanks for the warm welcome; I look forward to meeting some of you in due course ;D
-
 from Talley too ..... coffee always available if you are in the area on a viewing visit.
Any hints as to what you looking for/ price etc those of us here may have some ideas?
-
Very many thanks, Backinwellies, hopefully we will be looking at a couple next weekend; I'm just waiting to hear back from the estate agent - one near Llanboidy and one near Cynwyl Elfed. Up to £330ish, 10+ acres with woods and water of some variety (stream, lake etc) and a private water supply.
-
Well next Sat morning is the monthly famous poultry and farm machinery auction in Llandeilo .... you might like to drop in there if it fits round viewings. For what you are looking for I suspect the NW Carmarthenshire (or NE) where you are chasing viewings is probably your best bet. .... you get less for your money in S and E.
Let me know if you want a coffee stop!
-
Not sure we'll have time for the market, but very good to know, and thanks for the offer of coffee - I am still waiting to hear from the estate agent, so have no idea of timings yet, but will let you know.

Blimey! Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but after many disasters in our eight year search, yesterday we at last exchanged on a smallholding. Having lost four en route, we still can’t quite believe it!
26 acres with 3.5 acres of woods, streams, a river boundary and loads of outbuildings in West Wales near Kidwelly. We are moving in three weeks and are equally excited and terrified!
After being daily lurker for four years, I am sure I will be bombarding you all with questions!
Below are husband and dog (Stephen and Pip) in the big hay field.
-
Lovely!
Pray for us that the Almighty gives us a beautiful farm around Leicestershire!
-
Good luck to you both. We waited for years as well, but it was worth it. :) :farmer:

 hello - from somewhere in the carmarthen / newcastle emlyn / llandysul triangle
You live on the mini roundabout next to CCF then!
-
Congratulations.
We completed on our smallholding just under two months ago. We are about half way between you and Carmarthen.

Thank you! And congratulations to you too! We will be just outside Meinciau, whereabouts are you?

Exciting times for all who have just moved, are just about to move or still looking. :excited: :excited: I have to admit to some envy here.

Croeso i Gymru
Congratulations on your adventure. We have now been here over 8 years. If it is the property i think it seems to have some useful buidings.
If you have moved by the 27th March i will be giving a talk at Kidwelly Camera Club then (probably useless information).
Personally I love Carmarthenshire buy not the local politics (Carmarthenshire Council has 23 people earning of £100,000 a year) but probably best to ignore that and embrace the beauty of the county and your new life.
Wishing you a smooth move!
-
Fantastic news!! Many congratulations and wishing you all the very best in your new place.
Stories and pictures will be most welcome :)
-
Congratulations! I know what you mean about not quite believing it - even after I'd moved in it didn't seem quite real that I actually had my own smallholding - I think it took about a year to sink in.

Urrr... no; Cwmduad
-
More Bermuda than Llandysul triangle there then
-
Well done Pip ….. got there (or here!) in the end :) bit further away from us than originally but welcome anyway

Diolch! It might well be as we will have loads of outbuildings - Berllan Dywyll Farm at Meinciau.
We are moving on the Equinox, so will be in by the 27th. Are you a photographer too then? I will see if I can come along if I’m not too shattered by the sorting!
23 earning over £100,000? :o

Thank you. We won’t believe it is really happening until the lorry turns up, so goodness knows when we will stop pinching ourselves.
We stayed in the pub at Cwmduad when looking at another place. Lovely spot, and so quiet with the A road closed!

Thank you! It was a heck of a bumpy and traumatic road to get here, but we managed it in the end. The place we have ended up with is better than any we lost, so was obviously meant to be.

Was, during my many different job occupations. Now just a hobby. I'm a member of Llandeilo Camera Club
https://www.dinefwrphotographicsociety.co.uk (https://www.dinefwrphotographicsociety.co.uk)
but am doing a talk at Kidwelly about a couple of trips to Bangladesh that night
https://www.kidwellycameraclub.co.uk/about.html (https://www.kidwellycameraclub.co.uk/about.html)
For anyone in Carmarthenshire either club is welcoming of people who have an interest in Photography. The former is slightly unusual in that we don't have competitions.
It's quite a good way of socialising as the clubs are most active in the winter months.

That is great, thanks. My local club here is very into competitions (I do The Guild of Photographers comps but have never been interested in camera club ones) and they meet 1900-2200 which is just far too long, especially with travel time - I just gave up on them because of those two things, so with Kidwelly meeting 1900-2100 and not having competitions that sounds really quite interesting.
Thanks!

Wow! You are close! We are at SA17 5LL, so your side of Meinciau as well. Are you on FB? We ought to connect.

Hmm, yes... a bit of a sore point there: I live on the back road that's a slight short-cut for the official diversion - as a consequence my nice quiet road has turned into a rat-run full of idiots who think that the way to take a blind corner on a single track road is to hoot your horn on the way in. Still, one day the council might actually re-open the A road - might even be this year...

Oh no! That must be really infuriating. Fingers crossed the council gets it sorted soon.
