The diary entry gives the background. Lamb born lunchtime; no life about him at all. Wheezy breathing but good pulse and fully inflating lungs. No suck reflex.
I tubed 100ml colostrum into him at about 2pm maybe and another 50ml about half an hour ago. His mouth was moving a bit as I put the tube down, but only a little. He's in a pen with his mum, who loves him, and he's under a heat lamp so nice and warm. I've given him another two squirts of Kickstart, on teh basis that it can't make him any worse (unless it kills him). I've got him propped up with a rolled up towel so he's on his chest.
I expect I'm going to lose him, which is a real b*gger but is there anything else I can try?
Feeling alternately desperate and resigned :(

If he's getting colostrum from you then just keep at it. He might come right.
Maybe some rubbing and wot not, just to try to stir him into life and get him moving about?
I've had some lambs that seem a bit dopey to begin with, but probably not as bad as this one sounds. Keep yer :fc: I guess :).

He had entropion in both eyes - I've sorted that, so at least he doesn't have THAT irritation. Poor wee mite.
His mother is normally a complete headcase but she's letting me milk her without being held. She just stands and lets me take milk for him. That's making me feel worse.

:fc: For the poor wee lambie

I think all you can do is put more colostrum into him, keep him warm and see if he gets up at some point... sorry not much help.
Is he lifting/holding up his head at all?
-
Hugs, for you, the lamb and the ewe. Sounds like you've pretty much done what's possible - fingers crossed he rallies :fc:

Lamb died between 6pm and 6.30pm. Feeling gutted :'( . I've put the ewe out with the ewe hoggs so she's away from any lambs (and any feed). Hate the sound of her calling for her lamb.
Thanks for your good wishes; just wasn't to be.

really hard luck- its rubbish when that happens
-
Aww, Rosemary, thats very sad
-
sorry, that's sad :bouquet:
-
Couldn't you put one of your triplets on her?
-
Sorry to hear that, Rosemary, you gave him every chance.
-
So sorry to hear that. Absolutely gutting for the poor mummy too :'(
Do you not have anything you could foster on to her?
-
Poor mum, and you - not good at loosing things here - working at the farm they find it funny me asking re every individual ones I've lambed but we care, big
-
Oh Rosemary, very sorry about your Lambie  :bouquet:
-
:bouquet: so sorry. You gave it the best chance.
-

Sometimes it's for the best, they're just not right. You did everything you could and should.
Would anyone have a lamb you could put on the bereaved mum? If I were nearer I'd give you one of mine!

So sorry , :bouquet:

Thanks folks. We had one set of triplets a week ago but they're doing well with mum and Lyra's not the calmest sheep - I did think about it, but if I take the triplet off and Lyra won't take it, it can't go back to mum either.
Sally, I don't think the lamb was right. I think he must have suffered brain damage - he never moved apart from what looked like a few involuntary head, mouth and limb movements and only bleated twice.
Poor little guy, at least he was warm and fed and I even manage to sort the entropion in his eyes, so he didn't have that irritation.
Mum's still a bit bleaty - she's out with the ewe hoggs, out of ight and sound of lambs, no feed, no licks - so hopefully she'll get over it. She's not a keeper this year, but it would have been nice for her to go out on a high :(
Feeling a bit paranoid about the three still to lamb ::)
-
Ug, that sucks. Sorry to hear about the wee chap. :(

Feeling a bit paranoid about the three still to lamb ::)
Don't be. It's just one of those things, and more likely to be an isolated incident than one of several.

Thanks. Jinx has just had teeny tiny twins. Their wee legs are like pencils. She's loads of milk but her udder is rather low slung (although the teats are small), so we're giving them a wee hand to feed. The lambs are very enthusiastic though and Jinx does love her babies

Bless  :sheep:
Glad you've got some sweet new live lambs to enjoy :)
-
 Sorry to hear about the lamb, :fc: that there are only ups and no more down from here on in.
-
You could try putting a tiny drop of brandy in the milk
Hope this helps
thanks
