Post by: james154 on November 18, 2013, 10:37:14 pm
I have a Leyland 154 with a 1500 diesel engine when she warms up and running on the road at 1500RPM the throttle opens on its own and I have to keep bring the power down.
Its suddenly goes 1500 to 2000 in a split second

anyone who can help I will be very great full

I have no experience with the BMC 1500. But lots with other diesel engines. You need to get your injection pump looked at. Can be quite costly.  But also just check that the breather in the fuel cap is clear.

If it has an 'in line' injection pump, then it will hold approx 3/4pint of engine oil. If the oil has gone then over reving could be a sympton. Just fill it (through the filler).
If it is a rotary DPA type pump, then it sounds like it needs to come off. But get a diesel man to it first for an opinion.
