Title: Chocolate Labrador Pups born yesterday!!
Post by: happygolucky on August 13, 2013, 08:11:46 am
Hi although born last night, they will be for sale although 5 are already spoken for, but no deposits as yet, they were born last night and should make fantastic duel purpose dogs, Both parents are working Gun dogs although mum refuses to work a lot of the time, but fantastic at picking up.......the parents have health checks and can be viewed, the stud can be easily seen on Mordor Gundog Site, he is a chocolate Lab too.....anyone interested, they will be wormed but I like them to be re homed at 8 weeks and then have their jabs and chipped as once I had some inoculated and it caused confusion with different vets and as for the chip, its best to be the owner not the breeder......To see more, look on WEESHIRES Labradors you may have to google it and its not been updated but there are photos of previous pups......they will be £500 each and worth every penny

Great news, 8 is a nice size of litter.  Hope she doesn't roll on any of them like Islay did.  :'( :'(  I love Rhum, she always has her eyes on you - prefect focus for a working gundog,   she has a super head, and I do like her shape..  I know many working folk don't like chocolates, but i think they're mad  - I think they are lovely.

ALL chocolate, the second boy looked black in the light but soon lightened, they have pink noses rather than black ones. Thanks Anne, a friend who works for Charlie so wants to train Rhum up as she too see's potential in her, although she has now moved into a house Charlie has built on his land so ideal for us all, she knows my every word, it was funny when she was in season as I did not want her to go into dirty water, the others jumped in as it was very hot weather, I said quietly "no Rhum, do not go in" and she kept out of all water from then on, only going into Loch Leven a couple of times, although that too looked horrid last week, she often finds me some treasure on a walk and will keep it in her mouth to give to me in my hand, her dad is a similar dog and they share some relatives, he is a good gundog too!!

As you know I have contacts (Secretary/Treasurer of a 500 strong working gundog club) many of whom are Labrador people - I see that Nutty's hip, elbow and eye scores aren't on the KC website yet.  Can you let me know when they are done please.  I take it Rhum's should be there.  I can put the pups on our website if you like?

I am in a daze now, I fell fast asleep from 1 on instructions from my better half as I was up all night, now I feel drunk... I thought about sleeping under the lamp but then I would not get up quick enough.....the bed I put next to the pups is hard to get up from and is uncomfortable anyway, yes, we are going to keep one, I actualy want to concentrate on training one and her mum, they have done the odd stint and a bit of beating but not too often due to not being available due to the B&B. I missed out on a brilliant shoot to come, the best day out ever plus £50, lovely people, food and drink 'hick' a plenty, if me and my husband went that's like getting £100 for a walk, beaters and pickers up are in very short supply and really needed, so when we are finally sold the house, that's the plan for one of the choice girlies.....not so keen on keeping a male but I always fall for the male pups,  but then I keep in contact with most of the other pups I have had and that's brilliant to see

Nearly ready to name the little choice drops, think I am going for herbs and spices, they do not have to keep them but I do not want the usual chocolate bar names or coffee names....so its out of:-
Mango,Cumin, Nutmeg, Mace, Basil, Poppy, Saffron, Tamarind, Star Anise, Sesame, Carom, Tumeric, Coriander, Chilli, Garam Masala, Cardamom, Capsicum, Bay, Basil,Borage, Cinnamon, Cloves, Fennel..........unless any other ideas TAS'ers?

khyberi is a lovely name.......so many give chocolate Labs chocolate names, in fact the sire is Nuttela......I want to be a bit different and run out of Lord of the rings names

They are only 6 days old, the stud dog owner and myself have a few people interested but I do not want any visitors at the moment and I am not in any hurry just yet!

They will all be sold  as the stud dog owner sells to  hunting and shooting parties and trained dogs as well as doing demonstrations  everywhere so people always ask him for dogs and the pups I have had previously have a very good reputation, they are going to make brilliant pets or working dogs, mum and dad dog are very similar, sound, rock steady and very clever !! and healthy of course

What's the sire's KC name?  I had an inquiry from Our Chairman today and didn't know.

He can either contact me or Charlie, the last litter a few people visited Mordor, its not far away and he is doing a demonstration near here soon, forgot the date but the notice is up in Devilla, if you are after checking his hip score its done and its very good, eyes clear but then any buyer will have all the correct information!

No, he wanted to look at the pedigree before going any further mainly because they are chocolates..  Doesn't matter I found it - Nutella, but why hide his KC name?  I'm sure the hips and eyes are done, as I suppose are Rhum's I didn't question that at all.  I've told him to look on Charlie's website.

The web site is old and before he was old enough to have his hip scored, not hidden, although he may well update it now as he has help re a secretary and his internet connection is very poor, he only sends 2 word E mails usually also on the stud dogs is Rhum, his yellow Lab and granddad of all our previous pups he is no longer around sadly, he was a wonderful dog and loved to bits, like I said, that's an old site.....

But Nutella's pedigree is there so that will do Ed fine (Assuming Charlie only has one Chocolate Stud dog).  Except that his sire's name is spelled wrong - should be Expresso not Espresso.  I've always liked Zeus.  Lovely temperament.

Expresso of Gaskhill  of mordor, he is a similar size to Rhum, way back they have the same in their pedigree, Madras Master Marinor or something, not sure unless I check :innocent: , he is calm and apparently a very good gun dog but Charlie recons he plays up to an audience!!.. Zeus is a perfect dog, so loving, so sad that he lost his eye........a lot of the pups have turned out fast and agile dogs although I do not want or like agility for our dogs as I worry Rohan is far too fast for her own good, she runs up  hills and jumps down banks where as Rhum :innocent: :innocent:

so chocolates do work then? i thought they did but was told by a friend they were just show dogs and werent bred for work. i love the choccy labs.

It seems to be a thing that working people put about.  I must admit apart from Charlie's Nutty I only know of one other working chocolate.  And it's certainly not trialling.  They seem to stay clear of them to be honest.  It's such a shame because they come from the same working stock as blacks and yellows and their shape is totally different from what you see in the show ring - not many of them could work.  :innocent:

You do see a lot of chocolates being shown.   I wonder if the idea started because chocolates are not so easily seen in cover as a black or yellow?  I believe fox reds aren't accepted in working circles so well either.

I know of one kennel that works and shows the same dogs - Carole Coode's Warringah's http://www.warringah.org.uk/working.htm (http://www.warringah.org.uk/working.htm)  David works and trials them, Carole shows them.  Out of 18 champions 15 of them have their full titles.

I was told that as they are not so common, people tend not to  be so choosey when breeding and so they have mostly been bred down the route of show lines as not many made the grade for gun dogs, some breeders would also euthanase  any chocolate that was in the litter, Rhum and Nuttela have common ancestors, Mardas Master Mariner who was actually a Black show dog http://labradornet.com/famemardasmastermariner.html (http://labradornet.com/famemardasmastermariner.html)
Rhum is thick set but still smaller than show dogs, like you say Anne, they are much thicker set dogs, Charlie's friend and Charlie would love to train up Rhum, she is being a perfect very efficient mum, she is so practical and deals with all the cleaning etc very well...so love our Rhum!!

I told you right from when I saw her first at 8 weeks that she was a good 'un.  She eye-balled me as soon as i said her name - always good in a gundog.

Fox Red labradors are just a shade of "yellow" and I have a new pup  :excited:  who is a very dark yellow, possibly most people would describe as fox red.

I think lots of shooting people admire fox reds. Just a matter of preference really between blacks and the various shades of yellow.

FTCh Mediterian Blue (sire of the current retriever champion FTCh Delfleet Neon of Fendawood) is a fox red and is a very popular working lab at the moment, having thrown a number of very good trial dogs. A sought after sire at present.

Think working chocolates are in the minority but if they prove themselves in the field then sure they would gain popularity.

You could lead the way HGL   Are they bundles of trouble yet?  ;D

Our shoot captain always warns our guns not to shoot the tailless fox!  Allez is the colour of a fox   I was told that was why they aren't keen on fox reds, or dark retrievers either.

Hee, Hee ..... poor Allez! Never heard that one before.

Perhaps there are lots of guns on your shoot with poor eye sight  ;D  ..... bit like the Spec Savers advert.

Shall make sure all the guns are wearing their specs before I release Kate.  :roflanim:

He he, perhaps enthusiasm t#rather than lack of sight.  To be honest Eoin, my friend's husband who is the gamie deals with most of the foxes.  Only ever seen one on a shoot and Allez was at my heel at the time so they all took shots at it.

Best remind them Kate is a dog before the off  :excited:- they like a bit of a laugh beforehand, provided the shoot captain allows of course.  :innocent:  Some shoots are quite fussy about protocol  :eyelashes:

all the new owners appear wonderful and the phone continues to ring with people after them, also the stud dog owner is so I pressed he wanted some but. All gone, shame as they WILL be fantastic pickers up, Charlie  (Mordor Gundogs)and others know that but none have gone to shooters.......
