Title: Saddle for bare backed hen
Post by: suziequeue on July 30, 2013, 01:28:59 pm
One of my older speckledys looks like she is getting more than her fair share of "visits" by out cockerel and her back is getting a bit bare and excoriated.

I don't think it's part of a more general moult as the rest of her feathers are fine.

I saw a female turkey wearing a little saddle once.

Can anybody recommend a particular make of saddle for my hen?

I have separated her from the rest of the flock and put her by the window in the shed until I can get a little saddle for her.

I've used these before - just the basic one.

poultry saddles (http://www.chickenbreeder.co.uk/poultry%20saddles.html)

I think I used the small for my Cream Legbars too (check that), but the medium for my Wyandottes, Marans and Sussex.

We bought a lovely one from ebay for a rhode rock that was obviously cockies favourite last year. It was made and sold by a lady that gave donations to the BHWT. can't remember sellers name but I'm sure she'll still be doign them if you search on ebay for hen saddle

Thanks. I have had a look around and purchased a basic canvas one.
