Post by: BALLOCH on July 19, 2013, 10:07:26 pm
Short notice but there is  a wooly day  at doonies Aberdeen this  sun the 21st of july 10 am til 4pm,a few folk going along with spinning wheels, weaving, rug making felting, and hand shearing demo. You will be able to have a go and buy items aswell, also why not have a look round the rare breeds while there.

Nice to hear they are still open :)
Wasn't there a threat of closure a while back or loss of council funding or some-such?
Anyhow, I hope the open day went well for them.

Doonies is now run by a chap who worked for the council, who is running it as before, open to the public but he has to make it pay on his own. There are often events there to raise money and interest like the wooly day. They do school party days etc.Its a fine day out as once you have a paid a small entry fee you can look round the animals, take a picnic and spend aslong as you like there. You can buy rare breed meat to eat from the long horn cattle, and im sure lamb would be available.
