Title: Whats this tree?
Post by: Bionic on July 02, 2013, 09:54:23 am
I am sure I should know what this but I don't. I have half a dozen of them in the garden. They don't seem to have any flower.

Willow... probably salix cinerea

I love trees in general but there's nothing rare or special about the grey willow. They tend to flower early in the Spring with yellow catkins - very pretty en masse

Thanks Spandit. Now that I have double checked in my tree guide I can see that it is a willow.  There doesn't seem to be much use for it so I might chop a couple down and replace with something more productive.

Quick growing and you can make rooting compound by soaking twigs in water but it's never going to be a glorious standard.
