Well, its taken 3 days to get the warp on the loom. I was ready to give up several times but OH was very patient and went through it all with me several times as well as supplying me with big glasses of wine when I was at my lowest. :roflanim:
Finally last night I managed to get the warp tied and weaved my first few inches.

Looks good Bionic, what wool have you used?
I'm saving up for my Kromsky Harp and trying to work out what I will do with it.
-
I'm not exactly sure what the wool is. I bought some cones at Wonderwool from Texere yarns. Its a bit rough so wouldn't make a good scarf, unless it washes up soter.
-
Thank you, Texere is where I was thinking of buying from
-
Very nice - just my colours! :D
What's it going to be?
-
I'm not sure yet Ina. Maybe a bag if I can work out how to do it.
-
Looks great! Well done :trophy:
I am so trying not to get interested in weaving and looms... and then you all start making lovely cloth and woven items... ::)
-
Weaving is one of the things I'd still like to do in this life - but it ain't cheap, and you need at least some space... At the moment I have neither money nor space, so it'll have to wait!

The warping up has been an absolute nightmare. I didn't really understand what I was doing and was trying to follow u-tube and a book. Still I got there in the end. The weaving has been rewarding as it grows very quickly. I've probably done about 4 ft since i started last night.
-
Wow - definitely quicker than knitting!
-
Well done. Looks great :-) see you Sat. OH is going to come
-
Looks good, Sally. I like the colours. Pity we don't live nearer each other. I could have shown you how to warp a loom.
-
Love it
-
Wow, looks fab. I love the colours too
I've decided you must have too much spare time Sally :roflanim: I barely find time to catch up on my spinning practice. You must have refurbished your entire home with you beautiful crafts in the time I've spun enough wool for a hat :huff: :roflanim:
-
Mammysaz, something has to give. I have too many projects to do and each time I start a new one something gets dropped for a while. I haven't spun for a few weeks, despite going to a spinning club each week (I have been knitting there instead).
Lots of half started projects in my house ;D

with you there!!! Ah well we'll just have to gaze admiringly at others's work... Fantastic cloth Bionic - can I order some table mats???!!!!
-
Fi, I was thinking of table mats for my next project. I was looking in the weaving book and you make them all in one go, leaving spaces in between and then just cut them apart.
I might make some for my sister for christmas. She has a yellow dinning room with red touches. Sounds a bit bright but it looks lovely. Now need to search for the right colours.
-
.. I then HAD to go looking for ones I really could buy (I am doing up a static caravan at the mo - so have a bit of 'permission' and a budget to buy stuff!!) - they are around £7-10 each on Etsy (sets of 4 at 29-40 quid)- does that sound like a new income stream to you - or are they MUCH more work than that?!
-
Fi, as I am really new to this the warping up is a right pain in the $£*&, but the weaving was quick and fairly simple
I think to someone who knew what they were doing then it could be a nice little earner if there was enough of a market. I'm not in that league yet.

well, warping aside - you are!!!! You must be so pleased!

Good colours
I can't remember what sort of loom you're using?
Yeh, after the rigid heddle, which you warp in an hour, I have had to settle myself to it taking two or three evenings to warp either my floor or table looms. I keep telling myself it's all part of the process....... ;)

Well, if you keep your eyes open, rigid heddle looms come up on preloved and so on - they don't take up much space. And the charity shops round here often have yarn - often knitting yarn - which you could use on a rigid heddle loom :)

When I was weaving professionally I soon learned to put on a long enough warp to make several things. Four hours to warp the loom for a scarf plus an hour and a half to weave it = five and a half hours. four hours to warp the loom plus six scarves at an hour and a half each = less than two and a quarter hours per scarf. Depending on how much warp your loom will take, you should be able to make at least two sets of four table mats. I usually left it all on the loom with items separated by several loom sticks or thick cardboard.

Lesley I MUST meet you!

Any time. :) I'm only about an hour and a half from you.
