Title: Death to the bees
Post by: sellickbhoy on July 11, 2009, 09:31:05 pm
Ok, i know we are meant to love them and they are all good sorts but..............

it takes me 1 hour to cut my grass on a good day, however, its now taking me over 2 hours as i am having to stop to make sure i don't mow up any bees that are enjoying the wee flowers in my lawn

now, there comes a time when i'm just gonna lose it and mow them all down!!

come on bees, help me to help you and buzz off out of the grass - it's not like i've not planted enough flowers for you to play in!!

lol.. you could try cutting the grass earlier in the morning , before they venture out , or later in the evening , after they have settled down  !!! either way .....problem solved !! Now you just have to fit everything else around mowing the lawn  !!!! ::) ;D

cheers

Russ

Or do it more often so the flowers (clover in my case) doesn't get a chance to flower.  I have the same problem, and it's even more difficult with a ride-on - try swerving round thirty or forty bees - my lawn is only half cut this time!  I'd been away fro a week and it was hoaching with clover heads and daisies.

it's my own fault, i like it when the little flowers (mostly also clover) appear.

i know hte beasties like it and i like to encourage them - but surely they'll move when they see the green monster coming!!

I think Russ's suggestion is best. We let the clover flower especially for the bees and Dan also stops to move them on!

That must be an incredibly amusing, or just perplexing, sight to watch someone stop mowing every few metres to shoo some bees away! ;D

I think this called for a you-tube video lol,
#you must have either dull bees or drunk ones as they always seems to move away when ever i walk towards them. But i only have a small area

The answer is a blindfold and put the foot down on the accelerator of the ride-on mower ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

What is it about men and ride on lawnmowers? my OH insists that when we move we WILL need a ride on . we will have a fairly big front lawn and a side lawn which will be planted with fruit trees. the seller is leaving his big petrol mower (included in the house price). the rest of the land (2.5 acres ) is rough grass - as in a field. my OH thinks that he is going to need to mow the whole field and thinks he can get a ride on mower to make it easier ...i would rather get some livestock personally or cut for hay as I think he would soon get fed up with spending 4 hours mowing....... any suggestions?

Should do - need ramps to drive it on though.

GET SOME SHEEP OR GOATS, MAYBE EVEN A WEE DEXTER COW - Don't even think aout mowing it !

I watched in amusement last weekend as our next door neighbour started to his field with a lawn mower (approx 2 acres) after mowing for an hour he'd not even covered a tenth of it. LOL!  ::)
I've never understood people who move to the country, buy a couple of acres and then don't put animals on it ! Why would you want to do all that mowing - even with a ride on ?

But men & gadgets - that's just they way they are ! You've got my sympathies  ;)

it's the Future Mrs SB that wants the ride on mower. I don't mind sending her out to push the petrol one around for an hour or so!!!

If I could get off with animals instead of mowing I would - just too near the village and passers by - they'd probably get the RSPCG onto me ;D ;D ;D
