The rare and minority breed one interests me .. is there much point in attending when I'm nowhere near ready to actually buy any?

Of course, there is.  You will watch and learn and it will help you decide what you want in the future.  I went to heaps of dog shows before I bought a show dog, even though we already had a dog.

I've marked the rare breed one in my calender.

I think I need some new Jacob lines, maybe a new goat!!!

I may have to sellotape my hands to the seat!

Hmm, they have a link up to view the catalogue as well, but at present it's just a pdf of the entry form. I suspect it will be replaced after the closing date for entry.

I'd love a horse too. WHen we lived in Kinross, the farmer next door rented out his field to horses. Paddy was bought for a 14 girl as her first pony. Fair enough, she was a big girl of 14, but she got a Shire cross! He was beautiful though, and they sold him again after a year because he was too strong for her- I was so tempted to buy him.

Fancy an Eriskay mare? One of only 40 100% pure Eriskays left. £4000 with 2 month old foal at foot. The expectation is that she would be bred from as she is rare and of very good blood lines.
