Title: hatching goose eggs
Post by: lilfeeb on May 02, 2013, 07:03:06 am
How long before they will hatch? I have geese eggs in the incubator, 2 looked like they had internally pipped last night, but there is no sign of them breaking through the shell this morning.

I'm no expert having only hatched my first goose eggs this year. Ours are Embdens so a large breed which are supposed to take a bit longer than some. Having said that the first internal pipping took place on day 27, quite quickly followed by external pipping, and hatching took place on day 28 and day 29. Everything I'd read told me it would be a bit longer than that.

Hi,you will just have to wait,if they haven't pipped externally there isn't much you can do.

Graham.

My geese (Steinbachers) take 35 days.
My Steinbachers started hatching today - on day 30. One out (overnight) and two more pipping... but I guess I will leave the incubator on for a few days yet...

Congratulations.

I have to wait for mine - some 3 1/2 weeks the others 4 weeks. I got them from 2 separate places and wanted a few days between hatches but not too long as they will be going together, just means I can ring the first ones before the others hatch.

only one hatched successfully in the end, but he is a very cheeky healthy chappie. The children adore him.

I got two out of my 8 in the incubator. One more tried to hatch but expired in the process - the egg was also a lot smaller than the others. Another one got out with a little help from us but had clubfoot or similar. Couldn't stand up.
But don't they eat... and eat... and eat a bit more... and are noisy...and race around their box.. very cute, much more so than chicks...
