Title: Wanted: Horse Trailer large enough for a clydesdale horse
Post by: ukag0972 on March 30, 2013, 08:22:02 pm
Hey folks, I'm on the hunt for a horse trailer that will fit in 2 horses, one being a clydesdale. If you have or know of one for sale, that would be great. Max spend £2,000
Thanks

The only one I can think of that may suit is a I. Williams 510, but they are as rare as hens teeth and will be more than £2000

A 510 is probably high enough but I find the problem is with the width, we have a 17.1 hh part shire and he won't travel in it as he can't get his balance. Would probably be ok on his own with the partition out but now just plain refuses to go near it. Think you may struggle to get 2 in if 1 is a Clydesdale, mine is 7 yrs old and I paid £3,000 for it.

There's also a rice trailer that is tall enough too. If I find a decent 510/511 close by then ill up the budget, but they all seem to be down south and I need to factor in the cost of pick up.
I'm in the west coast of Scotland

Another one to consider is this

However do be very assiduous on checking the floor - there have been some issue with CL trailers in this respect - ideally you want one with an alloy floor not the plastic covered wood.

I bought a cheval trailer off a friend and you could blow a hole through them!  They are nice and light for towing but made of thin ply and their big 17hh horse somehow managed to break the jockey door partition.

I wouldn't like to take a dodgy traveller in one.  My young fells thankfully are good as gold in it.

Depending on your license a 7.5 tonne lorry my work out cheaper. they are going cheap at the moment as new drivers can not drive them.
I had a very old reliable lorry which cost me £300 to test , normal tax, restricted milage insurance £130.
I have done both lorry and 4x4 with trailer and would go back to a lorry if I had anything over 14.2.
