We are still getting below freezing temperatures in South Oxfordshire and I have not put my early potatoes in. Can I risk it?

I put my first spuds in at the weekend, then woke up to frost this morning, I hope they will be ok, this is my first year doing potatoes!

I think they should be OK if they're far enough under. Isn't that part of the principle of continuing to earth up the shoots so they are protected from frosts? I've just been preparing my beds so all is ready to go but my first earlies which have supposedly been chatting for over two weeks have not cut ally done much do I'm in a quandary,
