Title: Salt lick for pygmy wethers
Post by: Cyberhell on March 01, 2013, 03:56:11 pm
I gather we need a block of Rockies for the boys, but is it red or yellow that we need?  Do they need the copper from the red that's missing from the yellow and is that the only difference between them?

We use both, about 8 around the place half yellow and half red - some prefer one to another and I have seem some use both.

We will only have 2 goats, will the licks degrade before they get used up if we have 2 on the go?

They do last a long time I have one in each pen which opens up during the day to an open plan unit so virtually 1 per goat and the only waste we get is when a section wear's down and breaks off.

I use the yellow one, I also use a hammer to break a bit off and pummle it to a powder - I then use this to 'season' their food once a week, just to make sure they are taking it, it's difficult to know sometimes if they are.  I also have a big lump of pure rock salt in the field just in case one doesn't like the rockie.
