Title: Make yourself known
Post by: jameslindsay on June 17, 2009, 09:09:11 pm
Just reading todays postings there are obviously lots of Events going on up and down the country that lots of us attend. However, unless we have met previously we have no idea who we are passing at the show if that makes sense. So, Dan, why not get a "TAS" badge made and we can all buy from you and wear them when we attend such events. Does this make sense?

Brilliant idea - I'd buy four - one for each family member!

sounds great, can Rosemary bring some up in August to the North Howe food group eve? I probably wouldn't have missed Linz at the Fife Show if we both had one! :&>

We DO have calendars - CSSA ones - Carol is waiting for photos from CSSA members now.  Should be ready in October.  Place your orders with Rosemary now. ;D

I am having a giggle at this post, because some years ago, a forum for Dales pony owners was started.  The annual Dales show came along, and we all went as usual, but this time, those of us on the forum met for the first time.  Non forum members were looking on in amazement, as we greeted each other with squeals of "hello Blackdales, taffydales,  greydales, etc.......even now, when we meet up at shows we tend to use our screen names.  A few of us had t shirts printed with our names on, so were instantly recognised.  I did find though, that some people who were active on the fourm were too shy to come forward and introduce themselves.

Great idea James...also, why not a pendant/sign for display at the gate...then passing members can drop in for coffee and a chat...or even car bumper stickers (or am I getting mixed up with another thread???)

Anyway, count me in...it gets my vote!

Great idea, I like the idea of car stickers, I am having a sticker with my web address on it on the back window of the VW, we could have a logo, so it can be added to Tea shirts, cups, badges, car stickers caps, shopping bags !!!!

Or indeed, brown paper bags with the logo on ;D ;D ;D

Badges are ordered, and we'll distribute them as soon as they arrive, and put a photo on here.  :)

The design is based on an idea we were playing with for the TAS site makeover - we decided it wasn't right for the site, but it should make for a nice badge.  ;D

They are small 25mm (one inch) button badges, not too overt for you shrinking violets but should still be visible on a lapel. We could do orange wooly hats instead?

Anyone who wants a badge please PM or email Rosemary or I with your address and we'll send them out. Limited to 25 just now, so RHS show go'ers will get priority this time around, and we'll get more if we need to.

Lee - I am going on Thursday, let's hope the weather is better than it is today! Did you get homes for your gorgeous boys?

I understand the priority for issuing badges to the Scottish fraternity...but please don't forget the outlying members and us Sassenachs  when you reorder...hope you all have a great show and manage to 'spot' each other amongst the crowds...there should be a prize for the person who spots the most...signatures required as proof, no guessing who's likely to be there!

James - No homes as yet!!

The sad news is that their mum dropped dead yesterday!, absolutely no reason for it! I was gutted, she was a gorgeous saanen and such a great mother to her kids and the pet lambs that she adopted.

Fortunately, my other goats have fostered them at the moment( albeit with a wee bit persuasion, and feeding), so if I get them to take them for a week or two then they'll be fine!
Fingers crossed!!!

Oh Lee that is just awful, I am so sorry. That is one of the reasons I have always been warey of breeding - just incase something went wrong, I wish you luck with the kids and fingers crossed you have nothing but success from now on. :)

Thanks James

They all seem fine just now, but its always sad when you lose a pal!!!

Thankfully they are all together, so I'm optimistic for them.

James,

I also send my condolences, it happened to us just 3 days ago too.  We had a calf that was quite weak born 3 months ago, she was constantly battling something or other.  I had requested my OH to get the vet to put her down but the vet said that he has seen worse making a complete recovery and we can keep an eye on her to see how she gets on.  Put her out when the weather got better and had really high hopes for her, she really picked up and was bright, but low and behold on Tuesday evening a half an hour after my OH had checked her I found her dead in the field  :'(.  It was heartbreaking as I thought she would come out of it.  Don't think I will ever get used to it.  But as I have heard:- where there is live stock there will also be dead stock.

Hope the kids gets on fine.  Take care, Kerrygirl

Sorry folks it's Ukag0972 -Lee that suffered the loss of her goat - not me. I'm sure she appreciates all your best wishes anyhow. :)

Any death is horrible, but an unexpected death particularly so - I suppose that's the downside for all the other wonderful times we spend with our animals!

Rotten luck, Lee.

Badges will be posted on Monday first class. Photos of folk wearing their badges woudl be good. Maybe there should be a prize for the most novel way of wearing it. Or maybe not.

Hope the French contingent can do this as well - not that we have a Royal or anything like, perhaps we could improvise and substitute the  LACEF weekend in August  ???

No charge, and they are standard 25mm button badges with a sprung pin. Here's a sneak preview:

If you'd like one just send your name and address to dan@accidentalsmallholder.net, or use the PM facility on here, or use the TAS contact form and we'll send you a badge (or more than one if you need them).

Love them, I always meet animal people wherever I go, so a badge would help sort them out, trouble is I always meet people with mental health problems, not sure a badge whould help that, I must look "helpful or simple" not sure?

Brilliant idea very innovative.  If it were possible to post to France I think they would prove very popular amongst those of us who will be going to the LACEF weekend in August.

We can post to France HM, though it would help if you or someone else could take delivery and distribute locally.  :)

Just PM or email me your address and numbers and we'll sort it out.

Don't worry James. We're going to print a new style every year and maybe have a home and away badge - you won't be "in" unless you have the latest model.

Works for football clubs...

re food group: The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 21st July at 7.30pm at Giffordtown Village Hall. Newburgh Orchard Group will be giving a presentation on their history and work. The meeting is free to attend and everyone is welcome. On average we have 15 people attend each meeting, some different people each time. For more information regarding the Local Food Group call Hayley Mills 01337 810342 or email hayley.mills@phonecoop.coop
We tend to bring something we have made or grown to swap, no obligation! I'll let you know nearer August the date for Rosemary's visit.

Bump...Bump....Bump up the thread!!

Hi Dan and Rosemary
Hope all is well with you and the move?
Just wondered if theres any badges available, now the "Show" season is upon us?!
I'm sure the newer members would appreciate a subtle way of recognising each other
(eg my profile pic is a goat on here and a german shepherd on a well-known social networking site... and I don't look like either!!)

Cheers
