Hi help or advice would be greatly advised for my male runner duck, I went to lock them away on Monday and realised the he was sitting in the mud and unable to walk, since then I have kept hi. In the duck house to see if he recovered. It looks as though his leg is broken but more worryingly his penis is hanging out and is very red sore and scabby, I can only assume he was trying to mate when the accident happened but his penis won't seem to go back, any advise on how I can resolve the injured leg and penis or whether its best to end his life?

I had a call duck with the same penis problem last year - the vet successfully sorted him out but he didn't make it through the op because of the stress but at the end of the day it was either that or Anke's pot.

Oh dear, he's not good and it's difficult to make a decision but as a fellow duck keeper he would be better culled, you may have a game keeper who would do it quickly near you if you don't want to do it yourself. :hug:

am sorry to say i Would cull him ( i would not like it if my penis was hanging off ) it will be for the best

I always isolate and observe for a couple of days before I make any decisions if I'm not sure. The prolaps can remedy itself but I'm not sure if your boy has another problem with it than just the prolaps. We had a duck with a supected fracture or tendon rupture and I kept her in the eglu with small run so she would move as little as possible. After a few months she learned to walk better and then turned broody (probably out of boredom) and hatched a girl (from a sister's egg ;D ). I would have lost 2 lovely ducks had I had her culled because of her leg. She is now very tame compared to the others. :&>
