Title: . Face and hand update
Post by: RUSTYME on January 04, 2013, 11:17:32 pm
Hand news first . The trigger tendon appointment came through , but had to cancel due to no transport , wrong time of year , animal feeding blah blah blah.
Had to go to docs yesterday (more about which in a bit) , and he said it isn't bad enough for an op anyway , so just keep bending fingers back etc for now .
I also have a nerve problem in the same hand . It is causing very bad numbing and loss of strength . I can't turn a key in a lock or write with a pen now .
This last problem has come on very fast 3-4 weeks .
Had something similar a while ago , so this one has to be sorted , bugger .
So that was the hand sorted ish .
The face . This isn't so good .
The face is still leaking gunk and doc said i had to go to dentist immediately . So went to dentist today . Got an emergency appointment . Different dentist this time . Had x-ray and she said that there is a bad infection in the bone , side of jaw .
I am now on Flucloxacillin 500mg  , from docs , and Metronidazole 200mg , from dentist , both for 7 days . Then have to have another tooth out and then a thorough investigation and see where we go from there .
This isn't life threatening (i hope !) just means another tooth going awol and enough anti biotics to keep big pharmer going for a few years .
Other than that i feel fine ! Well apart from my back , and neck going into melt down and my hips and knee going ape s**t and the sinuses creating enough gunk (ectoplasm) to remake Ghost Busters .
I think this may be a cunning ploy by 'them' , to remove me from the planet bit by bit !

I'm really glad you've got some fierce antibiotics for that bone infection - sometimes they're the only thing that will do

But very sorry your hand is getting so bad  :-*

I was going to ask how your face was - hoped youwould have seen an improvement.  Fingers crossed you get sorted soon.
Sorry about the hand though.  I have problems with my joints in my hands, and know how frustrating it is, not able to do things.  I too struggle to hold a pen, and my writing has got terrible.

Cheers jk , i hate taking any drugs . After the smash i was on anti bios for best part of 18 months due to infections in my hand , (same one that is in meltdown now) , my face , (same side as is playing up now) , my head , and hips and knees . They ran out of anti bios to use on me then lol . Don't want to go there again , that was a very rough time to say the least .
Getting somewhere now though i hope .

Thanks Rox , yes my writing is now non existant , i can just about do my name , that's it !
Can still use a shovel and lift things so far though .
Things sorting out a bit better at your place now mate ?

Don't mean to scare you, just keep at your doctor and dentist to get this infection sorted. You have enough  problems as it is but  untreated dental disease is linked to heart problems. Keep popping  those pills   hope all is sorted soon  :sunshine:

The hand problem is a b£&§7r apart from green shell muscles ( natural source of glucosamine ) I don't know what else you can do that you aren't already trying

On a bright note  :sunshine: the seasons are turning so here's for a  DRY and bright ( but wet nights now and then ) spring and summer  and no sight of  :bunny:  ;)

Yes, thanks for asking .....I soldier on.  Well, you have to - animals need to be seen to.Feel rough though,  had a bad cold, so will be up all night coughing I suppose.  Shocked to see how pale I am - look like I may kick the bucket at any moment. :)

I had a heart attack about 6 years ago Mammy , hence the walking , diet change etc , don't fancy another one of those , thank you very much .
I take MSM for joints etc , but glucosamin makes me ill  .
No money for any supplements  now at this time of year . I buy msm from simply supplements , bogof , 180+180 , that gets me through the year .
Glad things are a bit better Rox , hope the cold and cough go asap , they can get you down at this time of year , especially when things are going tits up all around you .
You should become a Goth mate , the zombie look seems to be in atm , unless the world did end on the 21st and they are all dead ?
Still being dead is ok , i died in 1983 , and i am still here , just .
I think they did resuscitate me though , either that or i am the resurrection of Jesus , no , maybe not ,
I am really Captain Scarlet .

Russ, your hand is certainly an issue but it seems to me that the mouth is the worst problem at the moment. If you can get that cleared up I am sure you will start to feel a bit better in yourself. So lets hope all of the tablets do the trick. Either that or you will be so high you won't care  ;D
Mind you this awful weather doesn't help. I thought we were supposed to be having a few dry days. Where I am its been thick mizzel for a few days now and judging by the weather forecast it looks like most of Wales have got the same.
I was resuscitated myself 3 times in 1985 after my car smash. Didn't feel a thing and didn't see any light coming to get me either. Perhaps he lost his torch  :roflanim:

Is it the glucosamine, or the shellfish that you are allergic to? I used to take vegetarian glucosamines, and know of at least one other person who also took them because she was allergic to shellfish. (It didn't seem to make much of a difference to me - I think I simply wasn't bad enough to really need them - but my friend swore she felt terrible when she once forgot to take them on holiday and couldn't get them where she was...) Not the cheapest, unfortunately. (I tend to stick to supplements from the 99p shelf these days, if any at all...)

Russ, I think you should maybe line yourself up as the next hand transplant candidate. Take care of yourself.

It's all a ploy to keep you 'on-grid' Russ, so we don't lose you.

Look after yourself - it's not jsut your horses and dogs that need you, there's that lovely family - and US!

As long as nothing gets worse Sally . I can cope with the hand as is , the jaw infection is going to be a long winded one i think , will just have to keep fingers crossed.

I can eat shellfish without problems Ina , but i don't like muscles , they have always made me ill ?
Don't know about a hand transplant , i think i need a head transplant , brain function is at best iffy . A whole body transplant would be the one to go for , mine is falling apart fast , as the song almost says " send in the clones" !
I should be able to stay online via this mobile link Annie , just depends on money and signal , will have to see how things go mate .

Don't know what particular shellfish the pills are made from...  :-\

Head transplant? Now that really would be pioneering work!  ;) Better not.

Oh dear...Interesting, would a head transplant...if they could do them....be your charactor or the person the head used to belong too? If that were the case, just think you body would/may hate your head and get worse>....

I think you could sell your urine, its so full of antibiotics it could clean drains :innocent:

have you heard of colloidal silver russ?

I have heard of it , but not looked into it at all mate .

Title: Re: . Face and hand update
Post by: deepinthewoods on January 05, 2013, 07:50:49 pm
have a look into it russ, its a natural antibiotic, that doesnt lead to resistance. silver has a long history of protecting and fighting infection, 'born with a silver spoon in his mouth' refers to disease resistance rather than wealth.

Hi Face Ache Russ

You must leave your body for medical science.  I reckon those students would learn a lot.

Seriously, I'm glad and relieved that you're finally getting the infection sorted.  Strong antibiotics are no joke but if they do the job it's worth it.  We all want you (relatively) fit and well and keeping us all amused.

Russ, metronidazole doesn't agree with everyone. If you haven't had it before and you feel ill after a couple of days of starting it, go to your GP. You may need your meds changed.

Really hope you get sorted, it's been going on for so long now I don't think I'd be coping as well as you at all.

Thanks chaps , or should that be chapesses ? thanks anyway .
Feels like the worst bout of flu ever atm , but i have felt worse .
I can function ok , walk to the land , cook and eat , although i don't feel like eating at all .
The infection started in July  , bugger , didn't know it was that long myself till i looked .
As long as it doesn't get too much worse , then i can cope with feeling ill .
See how things go tomorrow .

It is important to keep eating though.  And take it a bit easier.  Just do the jobs you have to and put the rest of your energy into getting well.

I stick to my usual food intake no matter what as a rule Lesley . Only tummy bugs change my diet as a rule .
I am just not a foodie , but at 5' 9" and about 12 stone + i am not anorexic , i just can't spell ! lol .
I only do what must be done anyway at this time of year .
I felt rough yesterday , but today i feel fine , a bit grumpy maybe , but i was in the docs waiting room the otherday . It was full of leppers , pox and plague carryers sharing their bugs with all. So i may have picked up some terminal illness . I think i caught ebola last time i went to the death centre .

People are bad for your health...I love the internet but never sure of catching a virus or bug from those who I am communicating with via the net......so, after reading your post RUSS, I will wash my hands and take a strong disinfectant in the form of single Malt....that should do the trick....
I work from home and apart from a strange man we had staying on the run up to Christmas, I have never caught any bug, he left me with the snots and now my husband has them...thinking about it, a bit of the runs would help me start my diet.
Hope you are back in full swing soon Russ, love your posts, you certainly keep it real! :bouquet:

Russ, your hand problem sounds very much like carpal tunnel syndrome. The bundle of nerves pass through a membrane 'tunnel' in your wrist. This tunnel gets inflamed and compresses the nerves and makes sensation disappear and you'll find simple gripping action difficult ie: turning a key. It's very frustrating but thankfully easily sorted by a minor operation which involves an injection of anaesthetic in the wrist followed by a snip through the membrane which releases the pressure instantly. A few neat stitches and you're done. Trouble is, in the case of us smallholders, particularly one man bands like yourself, you may be able to take the time out for the op under local anaesthetic but not the don't-do-any-heavy-lifting stage of recuperation (usually a few weeks). Even lifting a teacup is painful so you'd need help for a while though it sounds like you could do with some looking after right now anyway  ;D
You could check out another option of a steroid injection into the base of the palm of your hand/wrist which does help in alot of cases. Still need to be careful for a wee while though hon as you'll bugger up the good done.
If you don't get ANYTHING done it will get worse and in it's advanced stage, where your fingers 'claw' over is inoperable.
Get to the docs anyway. It seems like a small thing but it could be a big hassle if you leave it.

I have noticed that, as you get older, 'up' is a lot further than it used to be.  I thought they'd just lowered the ground.

Thanks P. The doc said about the wrist and pressure on the nerve . He has refered me to the specialist , so waiting for an appointment now .
No way can an op happen in winter while i am feeding the horses though !
Well , i could work one handed for a while i suppose , but the left hand is a bit iffy due to mini strokes and a buggered shoulder .
Yes , i would get by somehow if it needs doing , needs must and all that .
Mind you , spring on it's way now , lots of digging on the veggie plot and no way can i dig left handed , oh dear !

The house we live in has some handrails for someone who lived here before it was disabled they are so handy, I can help myself up if I  crawl to them.....no one told me this when I was younger. I got caught in loads of thick brambles on Saturday and just could not get up without a hand...

Rusty , as soon as they offer you the op have it......I put off my hip op..for years, now have back problems due to leaving it so long.......I am sure people will much in if needed, I agree about the summer bit though.......

A rude uncle of my ex...he was a farmer..had that condition and took great pleasure in showing us all his finger pointing in towards his palm....with additional very rude comments that I am not going to repeat..a cle is connected to toilet paper

oh, Russ, what kinda news! I've not been on-line for a while as mum was here and we decorated the living room. First time in over 3 years we now have a living room  :roflanim: . And I was car hunting, now a proud owner of a 4x4  :roflanim: :roflanim: . And I'm now half a  century old, which actually feels better than 49  .

Time this jaw of yours gets sorted out but I did say that weeks ago....Hope you're on the mend soon.  A good physio should be able to sort out your hand. Anyone trained in Barral's method  (a genious in my opinion) could free this nerve. It's always the luck of the draw if they're shite or any good though! I tend to get the one who sends me home with a "full range of movement" without even as much a touching me  . Wishing you luck on the healing front, Russ - and generally all the best for 2013!  :&>

Thanks Kerstin ,  you old bugger , you are catcìng up with me though ! Belated happy birthday mate .
Good luck with the 4x4 , i just use 2 boot drive nowdays .
The double whamy anti bio 'seems' to be working atm . One more day left on them now and the gunk has stopped flowing , at last . Have to go in on the 30th for possible tooth out , if the infection has gone enough ? , and a more thorough examination and possible head amputation .
The hand isn't painful , just can't do some things like , write , use a key , cut food with a knife , but ok using a shovel to clear crap , carry a bucket , use a wheelbarrow etc .
The numb feeling is a bloody pest though .
Not heard of the Barrel's system thingey , no money anyway , but will have a look into it , thanks .
Think i will get through till spring ok , unless it goes into meltdown .
My little finger and the next one are the worst for numbness . Hardly any grip left though .
How is the ankle now ? Ok i hope . Happy new year mate , take care , Russ

Although the doc gave me the flucloxacillin , he said it is the dentist that has duty of care NOT them ! I will try to get hold of the dentist tomorrow , but signal for the phone is almost nil atm .
I take the last anti bio tonight , so will have some  in the system for a day or so at least , hopefuly .

Sounds like you need another course of antibiotics, don't let it get going again before you get some <stern voice>

Weird the doctor had an 'off-limits’ when it comes to teeth. Surely a systemic infection is 'body' not teeth  ::)

I hope they offer that op on your hand soon.

Just have to wait for the letter telling me that i have been refered and will be getting another letter from them , and i will then have to phone them up to make an appointment to see the specialist , a Mr Rash , wtf ? I think they are taking the piss at times lol .

RUSS!  You need help - NOW, not next week or the week after.  Bacteria are killers.  What use are you to your dogs and horses if you are flat on your back!  Phone tomorrow FIRST thing!
Title: .
Post by: RUSTYME on January 11, 2013, 11:01:57 pm
The reason i couldn't hold the knife etc Annie , is the  hand problem , carpel tunnel syndrome .  The jaw infection is completely seperate from that mate . I take the last of the anti bios for the infection tonight .
I only have the mobile , and due to bad weather there is almost no signal here . So can only phone when there is signal .
No buses here either , a 6 hour walk would do me in atm  . My leg would give way lol .
I will get my aunt to get hold of the dentist if i can't tomorrow .
Life is rather complicated here at times .
99% of the time it is the same as anywhere else .
The 1% can be the bugger though !
But as i say , i am still on anti bios atm , so not much the dentist can do really .
I will get hold of them somehow though mate .

If that is the last AB and still gunge there you need more without a break.  I wasn't referring to the hand. Carpal Tunnel needs an op and until you get the tooth sorted you can't go through an op. Get more ABs!!!

I agree with Annie, Russ. I  suppose it is good that it's leaking dirt to the outside and so doesn't have to be processed by your body. Still, you should see seomone now! Emergency dental treatment anywhere? Out of hours service? Surely any hospital can look at you and give you a different AB!  :&>
Title: Re: . Face and hand update
Post by: feldar on January 14, 2013, 09:43:02 am
Yes i agree Russ
You should be able to go to a Hospital and get some more ABS they will have emergency on call dentists there. If you.ve been on them a while and they've not kicked the infection you need some stronger ones!

No appnintment to go too until the 30th for the jaw .
The hospital is a forget job . My nephew went there with raging toothache . He was waiting over 6 hours , got to see someone at 1am , they gave him 2 paracetamol and told him to see a dentist ? My nephew was then removed by 4 policemen ! He took the tooth out himself with pliers and a screw driver the next day .
Also , the hospital has norovirus , and mrsa atm . Think i'll give that a miss just now .
It is a forget job up the hospital .
No buses round here , so you have to book a connection a week in advance ?
Only 3 emergency apps per day at dentist and you phone up at 9am to 'book ' one , if you can get through ?
No mobile signal here in mornings , it is a signal dead spot .
The impossible list goes on !
On the bright side , the gunk has stopped again .
It looks much better today , and feels better too , but i will get hold of the dentist asap . But only have enough signal for internet or text . Not enough to phone out . Good ere init ? lol .

I did!  ;D

No, it's just that I know how difficult it is to get anywhere if you don't have a car - more so even in this weather... Just now I'm doing "taxi service" for a friend who's son's had an accident with the car they both need to get to work and other places... At least with her it's not emergencies, just "normal" dentist/GP appointments and shopping etc...

What about going on one of your horses? I suppose you would not be able to grip too well either but it would make a great talking point...I would love a horse or donkey and cart....maybe that's a form of transport that's not too costly!!!!
My uncle ended up moving out of his mobile home in Porth Neigwl as he could not get about, he used a moped.....he moved to the dreaded Rhyl (sorry for anyone who lives in Rhyl) I want to move and I am fit but still think about how difficult it would be to get around.
I suppose if you did your own surgery you could pass out and bleed a lot ::)    soo, not a good idea

I nearly passed out when I was in to get a metal plate removed from my arm. They cut it open and the doctor said "nurse, we haven't got that type of screwdriver." I looked at him - he wasn't joking. I had to wait for the screwdriver to come from another operating theatre, sterilisation etc. I want full anesthetics from now on.

Lol , all varieties of screwdrivers here , but no metal plates as yet , thankfully .
It's about 12 miles to the dentist . That would be about the max for a road fit horse anyway , mine aren't road fit or shod . Plus 10 miles of the trip are main road . No way would i risk it , people drive like idiots these days .
Shoeing costs a bloody fortune these days , £60-£100 , and mine have never been shod , they would kill the farrier !
As well as the busy roads , the cost of shoeing etc , my back couldn't cope with it or my hips . 10-20 minutes riding , and i am buggered for a couple of months .
I could avoid main roads and get there via back roads , but that would double the distance there and back .
Very local trips , couple of miles or so , unshod , with a cart , if i had one ?and the gear , would be ok , but my dentist doesn't work in any of the fields i could get too sadly lol .

We believe you.   ;D

It's a pity that your dentist doesn't do home visits.  I had a dentist who used to visit nursing homes to see patients.  If it's just to look at you and write a prescription it should be a possibility.
