Title: So excited
Post by: Lesley Silvester on January 03, 2013, 10:57:33 pm
:excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

A lovely lady on Ravelry has just offered me a four shaft table loom FOR FREE.  I am just so excited I am jiggling my feet (I would jump up and down if it was physically possible for me).

She is in the Derbyshire Peak District so not too far from me, although I wouldn't be able to drive that far and back in one day (about two hours or so) so I am going to ask my friend to take me.

I'm not going to sleep tonight.   :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

Just need to get a warping board and shuttles and bits and pieces but I am sure that OH will buy those as my belated Christmas present.

:excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

Just in case no one realises, I am EXCITED  :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

Excellent!   I am  :excited: for you, although I don't think you need much help!  ;) :D

Between Ravelry and TAS, the world seems like a warm and friendly place a lot of the time, don't it?

Thanks, GP.  A four shaft loom is one that, strangely enough, has four shafts so you can lift them in different combinations to make different patterns.  The basic pattern is called tabby and is the straightforward over one thread, under one thread that you would get with a weaving frame and a shuttle or weaving needle or on a rigid heddle loom but there are loads of different patterns.  It's even possible to weave a tube or a folded piece of work joined on either side with a four shaft (Or even more on an 8 shaft).  See it being done on Weaving on Ashford Table Loom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQKGuRZ_uDQ#)

Still wiggling my toes in excitement but I'll give the emoticons a miss for now in respect of those who can't cope with so many.   ;)

Requires focus I can see Mad, that'll keep you off the streets anyway.

Looking forward to seeing lots of tubes in various colours, great fun and the possibilities are endless.  Rattle down all your old jerseys and make ... well stuff! Brilliant!  :excited:

I'm starting on scarves just til I get into the swing of it again and am happy with my edges, then the sky's the limit.  I used to weave clothes by making rectangles and sewing them together.  I still have my book of patterns so I could have a new coat soon.

Didn't get offered the spinning wheel but you can't win them all.

Happy weaving!!  :excited:

I always make a mental list of what I would like, even events to happen, I think its cosmic ordering, so far, I have had everything on that list except a Landrover Defender but I do know I could buy one!!!
I think free stuff is wonderful, not only due to the money you save but its like you are giving a deserving home to something unwanted....our house is full of unwanted things...not my husband, I want him :innocent:

The lady who offered the loom to me said that it had obviously been loved in the past and deserved to be loved again.  Hoping to collect on Tuesday.  Watch this space.   :excited:

Items which come free are often not as valued as those we pay for, but it sounds as if you will love this loom MGM  :)

I think that's a lovely way to look at things. When ever something in our house comes to the end of our use of it, I always try to pass it onto someone else who might get the same amount of joy out of it  :D  it's definitely the way forward!  ;D

I wish I could disagree with that, but sadly I think it can be the case  :(

Then you get lovely recipients like Lesley who will treasure it all the more because of the inherent commitment of being 'chosen'  :)

Thanks for the compliment, SITN.  I suppose some people might give preference to things they have paid for, but not me.  I've always appreciated things however I have acquired them.  Maybe it has to do with the fact that I've never been able to afford luxuries so when I am given something that I would not otherwise be able to have, it becomes very special.

I'm picking up the loom on Tuesday and also being given a raddle and a shuttle.  Woohooooooooooo!

Sorry, can't resist.   :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

MGM did you see the loom on ebay went for £190?
My guild has a weaving day booked at the end of this month so I am going to wait for that to see if I like it or not. If I do its my birthday in Feb

Sally, no I didn't see that one.  A good price unless it's a Weavemaster.  I wouldn't touch one of those as the waft slackens off very easily and it's almost impossible to keep a good tension.

Think I'll have a lookon ebay for a warping board.   :excited: :excited:

There was one in Sheffield but they wanted it collecting.
Mind you, we ought to be able to organise a 'railroad' amongst us TASers, like they do for antique wheels on Rav across the whole of Canada and the US  :D

It's nearly tomorrow  :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

great news!  have fun collecting - and the loan  offer of my wheel for a few months is still open  - should be a bit free-er to deliver next week if you can spare a minute from your weaving ;D

That will be great FiB.  I've around most of the time so just let me know when it's convenient for you.

I'm looking forward to having something else to do other than sit and read or be on the laptop.  I get so bored these days.  Hate being so inactive.
