Title: Kilts
Post by: Donald on December 18, 2012, 07:37:57 pm
Hello,

In the "Equipment" register, it might be rightly queried. Still, clothes do facilitate the necessary work. It could just as easily go over footwear or good gloves or braces... I don't know. Well I've just had a kilt for the first time and am getting used to the whole thing. It sure makes slipping on the rubber boots simple. No more jamming the pant legs down there. Does anyone else use them?

Greetings,

Don Wagstaff

Dan bought a kilt recently - he looks fab in it but I'd kill him if I caught him wearing it round the smallholding. If he wants one for working, he'll need to get a second best one  ;D

It's for work, from a Swedish firm, got a lot of pockets and pouches all over the place.

Donald, don't your knees get cold?
I can understand it being easier to remove wellies but other than that I would have thought the kilt more awkward.
I wear leggins most of the time simply because it so much easier to get boots on and off. As they fit tightly on the legs there is no material to fold when getting boots on.

Dan says it's really warm. And anyway, can you imagine a bloke in leggings?  :roflanim:

The Kilt looks great.   I tend to find its the fatty bit on your thighs and bum that gets cold, so a kilt is ideal to cover that bit.

As to trews I always wear an extra pair of socks over the ends of mine just to ease boot getting on. I tend to struggle with the calf size of ALL boots so tucking the jogging bottem legs in carfully first works well.

Needless to say, men look very good in kilts  but I doubt many, if any women on here actually wear a skirt to work in or even very often....the current trend for leggings and long jumpers has even reached me, not worn a skirt for ages!!!...although I often think if a lady needs a wee wee in the wood a skirt would be far more dignified!!

Nice on Donald....can we have another piccie PLEASE?

7 yards or so of woollen fabric wrapped round your bum and legs, pleated to trap air .....sounds quite warm really when you think about it that way. But then I do long for the Edwardian style skirts, complete with layers of petticoats and a pinny to come back into fashion..those had to be warmer than cold denims...

Big question is ......(drumroll).....what are you wearing under yer kilt Donal' ? and don't polish those wellies or everyone might see.

Friends wee boy was wearing pampers under his (he's 2) but we though that would be quite cosy thermal insulation.  Just a suggestion Donald  ;)  Knitted pants may also be attractive (sure someone must have some nice freshly spun rare breed fleece for you there).

Your picture is a bit fuzzy by the way - it looks like you are walking at speed behind some school benches to me or it could be the head of a giant turkey - is that you Donal' ?

Don't you think this might be just a bit itchy in the nether regions?

Hello,

So the kilt I've got is not Scottish and it really is an adaptation  meant to be a work garment. It's from Bläklader, which make work clothes. I got the idea in my craw this summer up there in Sweden, driving through a section of the road that was under construction and one of the road crew had his on - a florescent, reflective model. Yes, it is breezy but even though it's cold out and I'm at work in the unheated barn, I don't experience it as being cold for the most part. That picture is just a blown-up version of a very small one so that's why the distortion but it's the only one I have now.

Greetings,

Don Wagstaff

A florescent reflective kilt, that has to be a first on here   :o   but what a great idea! they're good a that sort of thing the Swedes.
I would think going over hurdles would be easier too, my hubby has ripped the crotch out of every pair of work trousers he has.

Going over hurdles. Bulls-eye. I think that's the essence of what it's about, lack of restriction. And I'm waiting to try it out shingling up on the roof later on this year. I think that's when the true appreciation will come.

Doesn't seem to be anyone else willing to pipe in who's using a kilt. 'cept for maybe this fellow. :unwell:

And that's the first time ever using one of those midget figures for me - and the last.

Greetings,

Don Wagstaff

Appreciation when you're up there on the roof eh?  :innocent:  Is that from sheep below?  8)

If they're so unrestrictive in the hurdles event, wonder why we ladies wear breeks.

And I'd like to see how well a flourescent lookalike would go down here with Scottish roadworkers!

Still haven't had an answer on your knitted pants Donal'  :knit:

Up on the roof we're not concerned with what or who's down below.
I thought that little figure was wearing one of these berets with the pompom on top like they wear in Scotland, chewing on a stock of wheat,  but now at a second look can see it's a head with a hot water bottle balancing up there and thermometer under its tong - oh boy. See, I'm so unskilled at making messages including little expressive figures to convey sentiment.
And I'm still milling over how far I want to go now with any deeper revelations concerning kilt wearing etiquette.

Greetings,

Don Wagstaff

Hello,

With unrestricted freedom of movement even nasty barbed wire doesn't intimidate me.

As with all men's men when approaching barbed wire with thought of an imminent crossing and armed with the knowledge that as a kilt wearer I'll suffer no restriction in my effort to clear the pricks without hinderance or risk of a snag there, wire fences, without barb or well barbed, are not a concern.

Go Donald! :)
When I was at school we used to have to wear kilts (only the girls), and actually, they were great.  A bit itchy when brand new but really very comfy and warm in winter, and cool in summer, and very robust.  Just brill really. :)

I have a cammo kilt from a firm called utilikilts.... pockets like on army trousers and a zip, belt loops etc.... really comfy
i tend to wear when away at motorbike rallies... its getting quite common to see blokes in them at the rallies in all sorts of colours
