Title: Blood Testing. (France)
Post by: Petunia on February 21, 2008, 06:46:50 am
Hi.
On advice from a vet specialising in pigs,  when taking the obligatory blood for Aujeszky's testing, we now take the precaution of asking for tests to be carried out for Swine Fever, Brucellosis & PRRS Virus. These tests can all be carried out from the one blood sample taken from each animal.
Swine Fever & Brucellosis can be carried by the local Wild Boar population, in some areas (departments) more prevalent than others.
With these tests in place, I know the stock has a clean bill of health and peace of mind for me. I was wondering if other breeders might feel the same.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's PRRS? Actually, what's Aujeszky's - I seem to remember it was a problem about 20 years ago in the UK.

I think that explains things better than I can Rosemary. Handy site 'thepigsite.com', I knew roughly what they were but could never have explained from memory lol.

cheers
