Wow, what a revelation! Used new electric log splitter (big upright one 6 tonne, Handy, I think) yesterday for first time and was grinning from ear to ear! Did the a couple of days burn in about 5 miniutes (stuff that is just about unsplittable by axe/mauls wedges - big knotty, strandy pine). Fingers crossed that it lasts, but it should payback in a couple of years easily (£430, and we had to buy in over £300 worth last year in addition to what we could split ourselves by hand). So pleased. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've always thought that the upright ones must be easier to use than the horizontal ones, but have been put off by the cost. However, when you put it in the context of the amount that you would otherwise spend on logs, it looks like really good value. Must discuss it with OH when he is in the right mood. :innocent: ;)
