Title: Festival on BBC Landward this Friday
Post by: Dan on October 02, 2012, 08:59:40 am
For those of you who didn't make it, and those of you who did and want to see if you got on the telly, don't miss Landward this Friday at 7pm, on BBC 2 Scotland:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01n7rjh (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01n7rjh)

If you're not in Scotland it'll be available on the iPlayer too. :)

Next year Juliet, we'll send a carriage for you.  :)

It was lovely to meet Gordon, hope he had a good day and enjoyed his judging duties.

Aw thanks Dan.  It's only a hop and skip from ours to Lanark though so I could go home for a snooze halfway through  ;D

Gordon enjoyed it very much - he spent most of the time chatting with the Wool Board man, but met so many people he knew and didn't have time to get around everything there was to see.

We are really looking forward to next year  :excited: .  Hopefully then I can help with the spinning demo which sounds as if it was extremely popular.

Oh one thing - Gordon said he would have liked to see your cattle in the 'Best Horns' class  ;)

Sorry Sally, it's the Dundee Courier & Advertiser, so I don't think you'll be able to get it. They do have a website, but when I checked earlier today, the pictures weren't on the website yet. When/ if they appear I'll post them.

Alison, Bruce has been raving about your wee gilt  and with the very short glimpse I got last night I can see why  ;) She's soooooo pretty !

Now Rosemary, wasn't it you who posted a thread a while back about celebrity smallholders?  ;D   Can we have pics posted please please, we don't have a telly and I couldn't get it on iplayer and haven't seen the Courier.  Missed out 100% and still cheesed off about it!  Many thanks.

Amanda - get yourself a Scottish Farmer, at least there are a few pics in there!

I think we can't watch the iPlayer thing until after the repeat on Weds, so hopefully you'll be able to watch that on Thurs.

Karen,
Bunny + her sister are off to Shetland at the end of the month, will be adding her rossette along with her too!
(Bunny because she has a white striped bottom like rabbits have when the run)

We watched Landward - Rosemary, you were very professional, and the section on the Festival was very interesting.

We also saw the bit on Ronnie Eunson from Ustaness on Shetland talking about his Shetland sheep - we were looking out for his Shetland cattle and managed to see a few of them in the background. One of the bulls bred by Ronnie  is the sire of 7 of our calves.

Yes, I was delighted to see Ronnie too and, like you, I was straining to see the cattle. I met him when we were in Shetland in August and he was such a nice man. And the driving force behind their new abattoir - he even offered me the drawings to give to the St Andrew's folk

Is she going to Grindins by any chance ?
One of our wee boars went up there in February  ;)
Bunny is a cool name, I need to stop letting the kids name ours  ::) ;D

karen,
No a lady called Laura Jamieson, she had 2 from some of the first litters brought to UK originally!
Any tips for putting them on the boat?

The guys in the ferry bedded the wee man down in a horse partition, he had his dinner and slept all the way  ;)
We took a non tip bowl so he could have access to water (which they might still have on the boat ?) and straw (but they had some of that already) They seem to be quite practiced at moving livestock and everything went without a hitch. I had contact from his new owners the following day to say he arrived and all was well - so don't panic ! But get there in plenty of time (I think they like the animals on well before the people)
Good luck

Our heifers came from Shetland on the ferry - the service was spot on and they arrived completely free of stress - it's a very good loading facility IMHO and the staff were excellent. If you are concerned about anything, call North Sea Ferries - I can't remember the name of the bloke in charge of the livestock - and they'll explain everything.
