Hi Paul- do you also do mobile slaughter and butcher? (not sure if this is possible?). If not what are the logistics of the smallholder getting the beast back to the smallholding? (I am in Sheffield also and would like to know which abbatoir they are using which will be helpful to me soonish for a few sheep).
Thanks,

Paul came over to us  last year, for a couple of pigs, and then for a Dexter Steer. We were very happy with his services( I guess that's obvious as we asked him to come back.)

He was very knowledgable and happy to show us how to 'butcher' the animals into the cuts and joints we wanted. He also showed us all the different cuts/joints possible and finally how to successfully cure our own Bacon and Hams.

We found that there was less waste and we seemed to have more meat than when we had our animals prepared/butchered by our usual Butcher.

Wish you were further south!  We are looking for someone to come to our farm to do ours for us...  We are in the Forest of Dean.

Nice place for a holiday  :innocent:

Up here in Scotland it is illegal to use an itinerant slaughterman.

Slaughter on-farm by an itinerant slaughterman
27. It is  unlawful for a farmer to use the services  of an itinerant slaughterman both to
slaughter his animal and to dress it.  This is because the slaughterman would be
supplying goods (i.e. a dressed carcase) in the course of his business

Don't know if it's the same elsewhere in the UK.

Believe thats also the case that its an illegal practice in england. While I like the idea of a home butchery service it is actually unlawful unless the law has recently changed.

Refer to point 26 and 27 and Q3.

Hi all,
I am offering a butchering service, not a slaughtering service. I hope this makes it a bit clearer.

I travel to you and depending on the distance with fuel costs and distance, then this reflects on the prices, plus what the individual requires in the butchering side of it, from a standard cut up pork pig , to boning and rolling legs or making sausages to curing pork for bacon ......etc so I find it easier to reply personally to each request.

Regards to all.

Smiffy, do you provide the "working environment" where you do the cutting?  I mean like trading standards approved, hygiene regs etc?  i.e. would we be able to sell the meat that you cut to the public?  Or would the end product just be for personal use only?

Hi all,
off to butcher 4 Lambs for a smallholder just 8 miles away from me,
 Each lamb requires:
 bone and roll the legs
 dice one shoulder
 roll the other shoulder
 lamb chops
 mince any trimmings

I will charge him £20 per lamb - no traveling costs this time, since he is just down the road. I hope this gives you a little better idea on the prices I charge.

Hi All

I traveled to a smallholder yesterday. 15 miles away and butchered  his Dexter beast, took about 5 hours to butcher (Me and my brother did the butchering)  all to his personal requirements.

It was a good day and all went very well ( all the meat is for his personal use ) with the traveling and butchering costs the total was £200

I am looking forward to a few more trips before Christmas.

please email me paulegton@btinternet.com

kind regards
