Hi, Pebbles
Yes, I think they do! Once I stopped laughing, I was quite cross.

I can understand a genuine concern that us so called hobby farmers might be a source for outbreaks of desease, but no more so than any commercial farm. We all tend to be able to understand the risks involved and able to take the correct steps to control these risks. I have just been visited by the local DEFRA animal welfare vet, because I'd been flagged up as a new regitered herd number in his area. He was very friendly, very thorough and very helpful. He also commented that I knew what I was doing, he was very happy with my set up and had healthy and happy stock. It was just an article in a paper, and generally, from local rag to broadsheet, there has to be some spin on any article. Pinch of salt springs to mind.

im proberably wrong but wasnt it a goverment lab that the last outbreak originated from? shouldnt they be blamed for keeping it in a labratory in the first place! we dont have and livestock and wont for a couple of years yet but those of you who do must feel very insulted and i imagine quite angry at such an article.

A smallholder from another site and I are in discussions with the Holland Smallholders Asscociation to assess the viability of us setting up something smilar over here as a national voice for smallholders and hobby farmers. The Holland Smallholders Association have become a voice in goverment and are held in high regard.
If anyone is interested pm please
Thanks
