I have had a letter from Defra telling me my area is shortly to become a NVZ area. I have read all the help pages on the Defra website and am probably more confused than when I started ;D Can anyone tell me the rules, in simple terms, how they will affect me. I have sheep and donkeys at present, the sheep are never housed, donkeys muck I spread on fields (I understand no muck spreading between 15th October and 15th January) but how on earth do I calculate the nitrogen going on my land and where do I record it? I fertilise lightly the hay fields only, use seaweed on some areas. Don't import any muck at all.

on the front of the farmers guardian today,
defra has annouced on tuesday about 9,400 farm holdings in england will be de-designated as nvzs from jan 2013, with 2,700 holdings being brought into new nvzs.

I saw that belgian blue, sadly my area (Staffordshire) appears to be one of the areas being designated as an NVZ.
Is there no one on here who is in an NVZ?

I had that letter, but I don't actually own any holdings, I just graze them.
Basically it means there will be new guidelines about when you can spread and where you have to store your muck. If you were a dairy/beef farm and you didnt have one already, you may possibly have to build a slurry pit.
