Title: cheap fruit bushes
Post by: denmylne on August 27, 2012, 01:22:10 pm
I bought 3 bushes from lidles a goosberry, a red current and a black current. the goosberry didnt make it but the blackcurrent flourish for 3 years, i then moved a gooseberry bush near to the black current at which the black current imediatly developed leaf mould and all the foliage and fruit died.
A quick surf about black currents revealed that scotland is a center for the production of new black current bushes, (most are called Glen something or other) and in particular the last 30 years have been spent trying to (and successfully) grow black currents who are resistent to er........leaf mould.

It may be cheaper at lidls but good local nurserys, albeit more expensive, are always more reliable. alternatively, take a cutting from a known fruit bush red or black current and stick it in the ground, it will take root. rooting hormone also helps
