Burt's so cute; socks look hard - I'm going to start with two needles. I can remember my Gran knitting socks with three needles like that.

The pattern for the animals is really simple
Make a dolphin
Body
1 cast on 30 stitched in dk blue wool
2 knit 20 rows -dk blue
3 introduce the pale blue wool into your knitting
4 on row21 take the end of the pale blue wool and use to knit the end of the row- the knitting will change from dk blue to light blue
5 knit 10 more rows using pale blue wool
6 one you have knit 30 rows
7 cast off
Side Fins / back fin
1 cast on 10 stitches - in dk blue.
2 knit 8 rows
3 Cast off
4 fold knitting into a triangle and sew down both sides
5 repeat this to make a total of 3 fins
tail fin
1 cast on 12 stitches in dk blue wool
2 knit 8 rows
3 cast off
4 fold the knitting into half
5 Stitch 2 ends and one side
6 wrap some loose blue wool around the middle of fin to give it shape and tie in a knot
making up
1 take the main piece of knitting and sew down one side to make a cylinder
2 take one end of the cylinder and sew so that it is closed. Turn inside out
3 take some stuffing and fill the cylinder.Add the eyes using your fingers to hold the eye supports in place
4 sew the open end of the body so that both ends are closed
5 sew the tail fin to one end and two small side fins to each sire on the back
6 Add some stitches below the eyes to create the shape of dolphin nose
the butterfly is even easier than the dolphin
it's 12 stitches of knit then 36 rows lol
sew running stitch at the top and the middle then about 1cm from the top,
then add the felt bits for decoration.

Lovely stuff -socks look complicated but its a great way to knit a tube - never thought about
them really.
Love the toys.
Just bought a few things for Tara for Christmas - nows the time to start shopping, before the stampede - like to buy practical things. Bought her this wool, plus a pattern for knitting ducks and other animals to put away for christmas - will keep her busy in the Christmas School Holidays.
Anyone got a toy pig or dog pattern?
