Title: Any ideas what plant

Saw this is someones garden.... well over 6 feet tall. Looks an interesting plant... any ideas what it is??

Or a Cardoon, which apparently you can eat, though I have grown it I have never tried eating it as it involves blanching and cutting with precise timing.

I think I wil have to grow one - they look impressive just as plants!

No, I'm with Dan on this - they do grow enormous - if you grow a field of them you can get in a couple of weaners and by the time they've eaten the lot including the roots and helpfully double dug and manured your ground up for something else next year, it's time to visit the butcher.
