I'm looking for a way to get the SS&GF poultry and waterfowl show to the attention of Scottish poultry keepers (the few that aren't on here :innocent: )
We've had a wee piece submitted to "Fancy Fowl" magazine ( I assume it was printed but I don't get the magazine myself) but I wondered if anyone on here had any good ideas as to how we can get the word out. :chook: :&>

Practical Poultry forum is a good one, very active.

You have to register first but they have a section called 'Sales, Shows and Showing'. :)

The magazine is popular too so maybe an article in the next edition?

If I can get on (its been a while) I'll put it on my blog on there too...

have you tried other magazines? Country smallholder have their own poultry section, and Home farmer

Thanks all. We've had good coverage in "Country Smallholding", "Smallholder" and "Home Farmer" plus SF have run one article and are doing another this month.
I'll try the forums you've suggested. Wish me luck :fc:

I'll stick a car sticker on my t shirt at the Duns show tomorrow (photo will be forwarded as evidence) and put out the flyers at the cages of the poultry section, Forfar is a bit of a way from Duns though but I'm sure there will be a few rosette newbies who will be keen as nails ....

Practical Poultry forum appears very active but their log-on system keeps people listed there seemingly forever. In reality there are few active members and they don't say much so I, like many others I know, no longer use it. Try an ad in www.poultrykeeperforum.com (http://www.poultrykeeperforum.com) and explain about the show in your introduction post. There is also a wealth of accurate and informative information on the parent site www.poultrykeeper.com (http://www.poultrykeeper.com) . It is through that site I found an advert for this forum.

Local free papers and community magazines are often interested in feature articles or advertorials. Farmers guardian are offering free poultry adds at the moment so perhaps you could slip it in there. Its very popular with scotish farmers.
The Whats on? website for your area will be interested in any events and breed society newsletters are often desperate for a couple of paragraphs of copy.

There are 2 other ways not mentioned, the best way is to advertise at other poultry shows, you should find them on line contact the show organiser and ask if they can assist either with a flyer you could email or similar (you may offer them/ they may ask for a favour in return but i guess that's what its all about!)
Second is the poultry club of Great Britain has its own website and sends out news letters - (not sure if the next one will be to late) Almost all serious exhibitors are a member of this and the various breed clubs connected to it. You may find people will travel from further afield
Also if your show reaches specific numbers /size/ classes if can be given various different PCGB designation of status ( prob one for the future:0))

Ou!
just thought also, flyers in the feed merchants, vets and petshops. And the National poultry show at Stoneleigh in Nov.

Thanks all - I'm on it. Have to fill the long nights in Shetland somehow :)
