Title: walk in chillers
Post by: chris3000 on July 24, 2012, 11:10:58 pm
We have reached the point where we need a walk in chiller .... but they are so expensive, does any one know of a DIY  kit or how it can be achieved cheaply?

Thanks

Chris

Sorry cannot help with your query. However, if you do DIY please think safety. All of the industrial ones I've had use of have safety features inside in case of accidental door closure while you are inside

The thought terrifies me so much I insist somebody waits with me.

we've been looking into this and it is a lot cheaper to look on e-bay for a van with a chiller unit, usually used for food deliveries, you can remove the body from the van - lots cheaper.

The M.O.D. may be worth a try. Apparently they have used units for sale at reasonable prices.

Or a contract hire might be worth checking out ?
I've requested prices from these guys http://www.crscoldstorage.co.uk/cold-stores/mini-mobile-cold-store.html (http://www.crscoldstorage.co.uk/cold-stores/mini-mobile-cold-store.html)
As long as I don't suffer a heart attack from the prices I'll report back when I get them  :D

If you are still looking for one, my son has one for sale off a  Tesco delivery van. The "you shop, we drop" size - not a big lorry.
It also has a small freezer compartment.
Trouble is, we're in Yorkshire and you're in Wiltshire. But it would fit on an Ifor Williams flat bed trailer or similar.
Don't know how much he wants for it, but will enquire if you're interested.

There is one for sale in this week's Hereford Times £700.  I have no idea if this is wildly expensive or an incredible bargain.  If you need more details let me know.

My walk in 'chiller' is my dead van thats now parked in a bit of my falling/en-down barn. It only works when the weather is the right temp....ie winter. keeps foxes/cats off though.

The last place I worked got one as an e-bay bargain - hired a flatbed and dismantled and brought it back, rebuilt.
