Title: Tamworth Boar
Post by: Templelands on July 08, 2012, 09:44:25 pm
Hi all

Our two registered Tamworth gilts are now 10 months old and we are starting to look at breeding them.

Where do you start looking for a good boar to hire in?

This will be our first venture into breeding - but its why we got into pigs and we want to do this right!

Anyone local to Strathaven that we could meet up with for a coffee, chat and a bit of advice would be appreciated!

Cheers :-)

Have you tried the breed society? Have a look at the bpa website all the breeders in your area will be listed there.

There's an older 'Jasper' boar at Palacerigg, in Cumbernauld, Lillian and Robert Waddell also have an older boar (Golden Ball) over in Avonbridge, Falkirk. There might also be a boar at the Museum of rural life in East Kilbride and I'm not completely certain but there might be one at Tollcross park too.

thanks for the heads up on the boar      don't think that the ones at east kilbride and tollcross are registered both had inquired and both had some form of crisis with paperwork   Lillian is the breed rep for Scotland and had we known could have done some trans shipping of good ones from England to Scotland :farmer:
