Devon. I looked cos I wondered if my two would take to a kitten. But that's a bit far away from Cumbria.

Oh good, I was planning a relay and wondering how my existing ginger girl (and her black and white brother) would react  ;)

Good, I was wondering if we could fit another in once we've taken the three kittens my sisters "sterilised" cat has just had!

ginger girls very unusual - nearly always male. our vets had never seen one. 'Ginger' (original I know) was our very very loved ginger girlie for 14 years :-)))

I've had two - red tabbies  :)

I know the ginger gene is sex-linked, so that females have to have two genes to be ginger but males only one. And only females can be tortoiseshell, since only they can have two genes (one ginger, one black) to create the pattern.

But I'm surprised to hear that ginger females are that rare - I shall let Jinx know she's even more special  ;)

Ginger girls are lovely  not really in the 'rare' category, I would say less common than other colours but we regularly see then these days compared to 20 years ago.

Oh well just what the vet said - they'd been in practice 30 years and had never had one brought into the surgery. Clearly they are all hiding round the place!

They must all be living around the northeast  ;D

Well, there are more reheaded people in the north (Viking influence  :D) so maybe we also like red cats more  ;D

I always thought that you only got ginger toms, but over here you get hundreds of ginger girls advertised every day. Very strange!
