Hi,
Its time we increased our flock again, so Im looking to buy some more hens.
Im located near Inverness, so anywhere in the Scottish Highlands would be great, so I could collect myself.
We have ISA browns, light sussex, cochin & buff orpington, so would like some different - maybe of the speckly variety!
Our hens are free range pets so Im not looking for expensive show birds.
If you can help please get in touch by mail or Im on 07929 390828
Many thanks

Have you tried the 'practical poultry' website? They list breeders in Scotland. Hope that helps.
We live in central Scotland and also have trouble finding any kind of reliable supplier of a variety of hens. I've even tried hatching but the eggs didn't seem to travel well and I ended up with only 1 cockerel hatching from 12 eggs so I wouldn't recommend that option!
Wish someone up here would stock Burford Browns (hybrid dark brown egg layers).
Good luck!

ajayb
We're 15 miles west of Glasgow & our eggs have got about an 80% hatch rate. Cuckoo Marans have dark brown eggs & Barn e Velders lay fairly dark eggs also, but not quite so many per year. Both fatten quite well too :yum: ;D

We are in Dunblane and have Speckled and light sussex chicks which will be ready soon and hatching eggs all our own hatched/breed birds and eggs :)

Sorry Mays the last 2 POL went on Friday :(
We've only got half a dozen month-olds here at the moment (off heat, definately 2 cockerels, 3 pullets + 1?) & 8 x 2 week-olds hatched by 2 broody silkie x, still with them.
We've only got a 20-egg incy & mainly raise for our own use (eggs & meat, for us & the dogs :yum: ). A few local folks have the odd few from us though we have occassionaly put some "extras" into Lanark mart, but only if we're going down anyway (helps to cover the petrol). My OH sells 2/3 trays of eggs in her work each week, that helps to cover the cost of feed.
It'll be a few months before we have any POL available now, I could pm you when any are ready.
