Hi all doesnt seem that long ago we were having lambs today we bought all the lambs in for worming and just to check all is ok. Then the shock when we weighed them.this year they have ad lib hard feed so now i cant.rember the live weight for the butcher advise please. I live in france and they seem to want leaner lambs.

40-43Kg generally to give you around 20Kg of carcass. We've just got 70Kg of meat back from 3, but we like big joints

For leaner carcasses you can pick from 35kg live weight, especially when you are picking new season lambs that have been fed. Generally speaking 50% kill out rate is usual in lambs that have been fattened with concentrates (40kg lamb giving 19-20kg caracass). All the best with them, tell us how you get on with them.
