Hello My name is Bec and have been keeping various animal since about 2004. I started with one dog that year, but with that not being enough the following year we bought another dog and a couple of khaki cambell ducks. Since then we have had another couple of dogs several litters of puppies, various ducks.,cockerels, chickens, turkeys, hamsters and last year we had two pigs. We haven't had any animals apart from the dogs since December as my last couple of ducks and chickens got eatten by a fox which was an error on our behalf. We also had alot of work going on at our house and with having a one year old I felt I needed a break. We are now back on our feet and have two khaki cambell ducklings and three cayuga ducklings as well as two black rock chicks and six maran chicks. In the summer we our hoping that we can mate two of our Bedlington bitches which means we will also have two litters of puppies. My other half is hoping to get two ferrets to work along side the bedlingtons. He already goes out lamping with our lurcher 'Lucky'. I could sit here and type all night, but I had best leave it at that.

what chickens have you got now then?
-
Only got my three Black Rock but am going to get three more, any sort will do, I'll see what I can get, will only have 2 Ducks though as I know they make a mess and they are a bit noisy.......would LOVE a cockerel but not here, I would NOT be popular.
-
My neighbours rooster starts at 4:00 am. Can't sleep with my windows open anymore. Hoping I will be able to use him at some point as I want to hatch my own chicks but they are going to need a fella
-
What abou getting a silkie, I know some on the forum have them and they are pretty cute and would hatch out your chicks, I would love some fancy birds (not like me) but am not going to spend loads on them, may even get some ex battery hens as I am not too keen on getting birds tat are too young due to the cats around here, they sit and watch my chickens most days and Ben (11mth Lab) just watches them ::)
-
I want to get a silkie just got to convince Edd. I prefer natures way to using an incubator. I will need a brooder house to keep them seperate from the rest of the chickens. Need to think about this one.

Hi Bec,
Silkie crosses are supposed to be some of the best brooders. :) Friend of ours swears by them.
