Post by: sam.t on May 19, 2012, 06:36:13 pm
hello can i ask if anyone on here is registared with their council for home baking
if so apart from the home check (which i should pass) do you need anyother licences/insurance etc , i will only be selling at craft fairs and from home (people collecting )
thank you :-) sam

you need a food hygiene certificate (can do the course on-line and not expensive)
trading standards also need to be contacted and the council do a food hygeine check.
need 2 sinks in the kitchen (or if you have a utility room then that will be ok)
if you have pets -they will moan even washing machine in the kitchen is frowned upon!!
trading standards will advise about food labelling etc and rules on weights.

saying that they can be helpful just depending on who you speak to.
one wanted us to send some  samples of chutney (which is considered low risk!) to be annalysed in some microscopy factory to decide on shelf-life!!!
hope that helps
oh yes.... public liability in case you poison anybody :o

I know this sounds pedantic, but do you think they will accept one and a half sinks? I don't think I have room in my kitchen for two. :)

not sure what youmean by 1/2 but the small ones are fine
they say its so you can wash your hands after sneezes etc that isn't a food one
i smiled at her and said that if a person was going to wash their hands they would where ever the sink was.
and if they don't then they won't wherever it is ::)

OK, my second half-sized sink should fit the bill. Also have a dishwasher, so hopefully will be given a clean bill of health :)
