Title: Distilling wine
Post by: chrismahon on April 29, 2012, 08:41:20 pm
Is distilling wine to extract the alcohol legal purely for your own use? If so how do I make a still and which wine do I start with?

Yes, it is very illegal :o We always found the freezing method worked best ;D Seriously though, it isn't only illegal because of duties and taxes but because you can poison/damage/kill yourself unless you know exactly what you're doing!

It is illegal - but you can buy stills from brewing websites on the same premise that you can buy...er..implements for smoking naughty tobacco, ie that it is an *ahem* ornament and under no circumstances should actually be used for distillation. However, were it to be used for distillation, it usually inlcudes a set of instructions for how you could in theory only, you understand undertake such a process.
