Title: Tree arrive at last
Post by: sabrina on April 16, 2012, 06:03:12 pm
My 2 apple trees arrived this morning so all housework forgotton and out I went to get holes dug, stakes in. Sun was shinning which made the job quite enjoyable. i had placed them in water to soak  and while waiting started clearing up in the polly tunnel. could not believe I still had carrots in there which were perfect. winter cabbage doing very well . Planning to still grow tomato and cucumber but not any peppers as they are too slow to rippen. So need to think of other things to plant for a change. Decided not to plant potatoes in my veg plot this year, but beetroot and leeks still going in. onions do not do well so given up on them plus the usual lettuce mix. Trying to give myself less work.

I wish I could grow apple trees! Try mange tout in the polytunnel, they do well and just keep on picking them, I grow a patch of perpetual beet in there as well to keep leaves going all winter.

I got a tip to start onions off in individual plug trays in seedling compost so giving that a go this year.
