anyone got any of the travelers home for the summer yet? think i saw a couple of martins today but not sure!
-
Still looking for them,I wonder where they are, they have normally arrived by now :-\
-
They need a southerly wind and it's been an easterly, here in southern Scotland anyway. The first I notice usually is all the excited chatter from the wires outside my bedroom window. Nothing yet :(
-
Swallows around here (Carmartehnshire) 2 days ago.
-
They'll be on their way here then
-
they are here, just seen them over the farmers field. good to have the little fellas back! keep my eye out for the Hobbies next!
-
Our first swallows have just arrived here in southern Scotland - three happy chappies in the sunshine who came and flew over us as we worked in the veg garden. I wonder if they were saying hello? The martins arrived a couple of days ago and are already repairing last years nest.
-
i saw 2 in wales last week, and 1 here in cornwall today, swallow that is rather than swifts.

Swallows arrived this morning, feel for them as its very wet and cold. A few years ago May and June were terrible. When the baby swallows hatched the parents chucked them out of the nest and all died. At first I thought it was just around my place but it happened all over the village. I can only presume the parent birds did this as they were not enough insects to feed them. What ever the reason it was horrible to see lots of newly hatched dead birds

We got the first pair of swallows returning a couple of days ago - and on the same day, the midges were rife.
-
Saw my first swallow on Saturday - forgot to put it in the diary - thanks for reminding me
-

Swallows spotted today in South Lincolnshire. Lovely to see them back.

Don't suppose anyone has the expertise to do an on-line map showing dates of arrival in various parts of the country?

we could do it next year but i think it is a little late now. set to see the first swifts and hobbies. then they will all be here again! i have a timeshare in dona lola on the costa del sol for week 11, the balcony is right on the med and you can sit there and watch them come straight over from africa! one of my special places!

got swallows mate, it is the swifts i am looking for and then the pair of Hobbies we have had for the last 2 years! they are my favorite birds of prey! they nest in a pear tree on my plot! great fun!! the female Goshawk hates them but can't catch them and the nest is placed so she can't get in. very clever! ;D

The German nesting ones have arrived....mind you we have had summer whilst the uk was getting the needed rain!
-
had squadrons of swallows come over today. wave after wave so i think they are here now. had some swifts too. all we need now is the sun!
