Title: Shearing in Somerset or nearby
Post by: SingingShearer on April 10, 2012, 06:47:41 pm
Just want to check whether anyone is going to need a shearer in the Somerset area any time soon.

I have had an enquiry from a lady who would like me to go to Frome in the next few weeks but it would make it fairer for her if I could find a few more small jobs to do on the same day so that I can share the cost of fuel between a few people.

Will be going via M5 and M4 if that helps.

Thanks,
Philip :sheep:

Hi Val,

I could possibly, how many do you have?
I was thinking of coming down before the end of the month, would that be too early for you?

Thanks,
Philip :sheep:

Yes, I have a couple of large jobs around Kidlington so I spend a few days down there.
Where are you and how many do you have?

Thanks,

We have 13 to shear and a ram to tidy up as we took some of his coat away due to him getting too hot. We are in bampton. Still a couple of weeks from lambing though. How much do you charge and are you willing to offer a lesson? Do you do feet trimming?

Hi Plt102,

Yes I do feet, I can give you a lesson, machine or blade?
As for cost I charge £30 setup plus fuel costs which I split evenly between all the customers in a day.

Thanks,
Philip :sheep:

I might have a job for you down near Salisbury, but I wont need you till June. 39 Lleyns to shear and 50 lleyn/wilts halfbreds, which will only probably need a strip taken off the back most of them seem to crutch themselves naturally. give us a shout if you are interested.

Thanks, not sure if I will have anyone left that late on around you, I am trying to sort my diary out at the moment and I am in a bit of a daze!

Thanks,

Hi Colliewoman,

I could probably do sometime around the beginning of May, I am still waiting to hear from my customer in Frome so I could try to fit you in if you like.

Thanks,
Philip :sheep:

I have 14 ewes 4 rams and a wether to shear. End of April should be ok mind you some of them look a bit untidy whilst others have no good rise in the fleece yet. Early would suit me as I want to add the wool to last years and get it spun but will leave it to you if you want to fit me in when convenient!

Hi Val and Colliewoman,

I'm working on a possible date of Monday 30th April. Let me know if this would suit either of you, if you are going to need me and I can look at my route.

Thanks,
Philip :sheep:

I'll say go ahead without me, having had a goodly look again today they are going to shed their fleeces so I'll roo em.
Any that don't I can tidy up myself. Thanks anyway  ;D
