The tanker drivers are not even on strike yet, and here we are, in chaos. We desperately need some fuel, but living where we do, garages are not that plentiful. Someone queued at our local Tesco for 5 hours last night, and that was at midnight .....and he still had no luck getting fuel. The next garages are 4 miles in the opposite directions, and of course, everyone is rushing there, so the queues are horrendous.
We do not have the time to sit 5 hours in a fuel queue, but may have to unless something mircaculous happens, like another garage opens up with lots of fuel.
If everyone just took their usual amount of fuel there would be plenty for everyone :)

was trying to fill the pickup up with diesel today, but all the garages are mental here too. WTF?

Perhaps its a crafty way to increase revenue, it was estimated that by people panic buying, the tax revenue pulled in an exta £32 million in one day, not bad eh???

I've had it with all this. Instead of buying fuel I bought a little buggy to go on the back of my bike so that I can cycle to the station with all my clobber, lug it onto the train and go home for a £5.50 train fare at the end of the week instead of the £25.00 it costs me in fuel currently.
Whilst a strike hasn't even been called.....I refuse to kowtow to paying more into the revenue or get swept up in the national panics that will - no doubt- get more frequent as time goes on.
It's tipping point for me.......

interestingly I topped up on tuesday with absolutely no knowledge that anything was about to happen (rarely watch the news nowadays). I almost didn't cos I was in a rush to get home, but the low fuel light came on and I didn't want to risk it. As we don't drive a huge amount that tank should last us about a month now ;D.

Good on you Suzie, too many folk moan about stuff instead of doing something about it. I hope more people realise through this episode how much they rely on something they have options for, if they think about it.

Tanker drivers must be laughing their heads off. Total chaos and they haven't even gone on strike. Point made methinks.

I was on empty as we only put £20 in fuel at a time as I do not go far, then thought I would not get any but I only had to que for a few mins...I can do without a car most of the time, although it is handy and necessary if you live in a remote rural place, at least a bus stops outside the house and I can go just about anywhere from that, hubby works near Loch Lommand and goes in to work via the train so no issues with him either....how people panic but then you are forced too because every one take whats around!!

have not been to any garages in the last week so cant comment on the central Scotland situation
making your own diesel from cooking oil is a relatively easy process BUT YOU HAVE TO BE LICENCESED FROM HMRC they shut a lot down in Scotland recently that were not legal
the majority of drivers just get £10 of fuel at every visit it does not seam to much money and in case it gets syphoned out they were the first to fill up so little surprise that sales jumped
it would not be me queuing for 5 hours i have never qued for even half an hour so wont be starting now
as to tanker drivers when it was the fuel company's that employed directly they were the most sought after jobs that were going only death or retirement created a vacancy and there pensions were first class
but times change and maybe not for the better the driver that was interviewed last night should have alarm bells ringing at vosa and the licencing agencies with the hours he was claiming to work to earn 45 thousand a year
every mention of a fuel shortage blockade or strike can shut the UK down in a matter of days and brings the UK that bit closer to a peoples revolution far to long has the rich been in control and when mere commoners get to that position all they can do is fill there own pockets :farmer:

I went to get at Gardenstown on my way home from work this morning but they had none. i only put in about £25 a month and never thought to fill up incase there was a strike. what a carry on. :o

I don't usually go for conspiracy theories, but I heard David Cameron on the News telling people to 'top up whenever they have the opportunity' which will instantly increase the length of queues and turn a possibly small disruption into a major chaotic fiasco.

Having said that I would go by bike in future, that plan is going to take a while to come online so I am still driving to Wales and back at the weekend and had to fill up yesterday evening.
I have to say - there was no queue.... but then again - it was a local Shell garage and therefore not offering the best prices. I think the main issue is at the supermarket pumps.
Even without the strike, there was always a queue at the Shrewsbury Sainsbury's on the bypass because it had the cheapest petrol.
We filled up all our gerry cans when Iraq was proposing to blockade the Straits or Hormuz a couple of months ago. DH is now using it all to rotivate the middle field!!

We dont go far but being a bit out of the way wouldnt like to be completely without fuel. Nearest place to fill is about 9 miles away so we always top up if we are out and about. Hubbie called into Welshpool yesterday. Didnt have to wait at all and yes they had diesel!!!
Obviously no panic yet in Mid Wales ..... everyone I know is too busy with lambing!!! ;D

Plenty of diesel out where i live but it's BP and its the dearest around, a few of my colleagues who come from the town tell me its mental at tesco's etc with townies panicing that they won't be able to take their kids 100 meteres to school in the car ::) or drive round mindlessly for hours in the out of town shopping centres! ::)
Country folk seem to be able to cope better, seems to be more panic by the townies. They're filling everything and the kitchen sink. Did anybody see the news item about the lady in York who set fire to herself decanting petrol in the kitchen by a lit gas cooker! ::) ??? OMG. What was she thinking of.
The govt has caused a right auld panic.
i'm not bothered i'll trundle round on me tractor full o' red! ;D

Two different people said to me yesterday "This petrol panicking is ridiculous. Why are people doing it? "Then went on to tell me they had filled up just to be on the safe side !!!!

Testing , testing , testing . The wheels are coming off the system , and tptb need to know exactly how successful their behaviour insight dept has been ,thats the governments mass control (brainwashing) dept , it really does exist !
The government needs a focal point to take away the attention of the ever increasingly unsettled uk public .

have just got back from collecting an e-bay purchase in Worscester , diesel £1.49.9 ltr , petrol £1.44.9. but none available as they were all sold out. Good job I filled up yesterday , I still have 3/4 of a tank left that will do me 3 weeks of normal use. ???

I would like to panic buy or even buy calmly, as I'm down to my last gasp, but everywhere is sold out :o

Those that are panicking just go to show what may be just around the corner , brain dead arseholes .
I feel for those who are affected by these idiots , but it makes no difference to me at all .
Without any feeling of smugness , i am so glad i am not part of this insanity that is modern society , 'they' can keep it .

unfortunately for me petrol is my second largest weekly expense at around £75. in 2008 i was paying 89p/l now its 142p/l, the school run is 40 miles a day, let alone work! i do hope all these panicky sheeple sort their heads out, im hoping all theyre tanks will be full and they wont be buying over the weekend so i can go and stock up!

Yes , i feel for those like yourself Dave . You get your life held to ransom by brainless d*ckheads , that's the twats who go round panic buying and the twats who cause the problem ( Cameron et al ) , by playing political games .
Now he is 'relaxing' the law on how many hours the tanker drivers may drive per day . Allowing them to drive 11 hours instead of 9 hours . A law that was put there for safety reasons .
So forget safety and work longer hours because Cameron is a twat and has not got a feckin clue !
But maybe working the longer hours won't affect safety ? Then why restrict them to 9 hours in the first place ?
Cameron has been eating too many pasties , especially as the last one he ate , earlier this year , (and he remembers it was a large one !) , seems to have been made by a company that ceased trading 5 years ago!
Oh , and he ate the pastie the last time he was in Cornwall on Leeds train station , wtf ? TWAAAAAAAAAAT !

I found some diesel, gone up 5p a litre ::) I won't give in to profiteering so I panic bought to the tune of £20. Then I thought how not so many years ago to put £20 in my tank would have been a HUGE expenditure and how many folk can't afford to "panic buy" Those who buy their fuel in five quids worth, enough to get them to work and back. How will they fare if this strike does come about? :-\

things must be bad when ... you lot are talking about putting £20 in, at the moment all we can manage is a fiver at a time (I walk 5 miles to work everyday)
Got some very narky looks yesterday as two of the pumps at the garage were empty & there were cars queuing up to road, we just parked up by the empty pumps & I strolled into the shop smiling at all the cars to top up the electric key!

nearly ran the hilux out of diesel today. went ot 4 places and none had diesel. just remembered a small village garage and they still had some diesel but reckoned it would be gone by 3. what is going on with the place? has everyone gone mad?

If yours is the same as mine, if you strip off the canvas and add 'sides' you can pull 2 bales of hay and a sack of sugar beet nuts with one of them kiddie trailers ;D ;D
Pleased to say that things aren't too bad here fuel wise, but as I don't drive it hasn't affected me yet!

No fuel problems yet ( Banffshire ) and no Q's.
Up here it seems to be a case of - can't be bothered waiting...
The only Q's I've witnessed are when 'last orders' are called. ;)

I have half a tank of fuel left. One garage in our town had fuel. Our small holding is 25 miles away and due to no rain, I am filling 4 x 25l water containers twice a day to water the animals. I have no idea what to do when the fuel runs out. Public transport is out of the question due to lugging a lot of water around.

Ha ha - but do be aware that to use red diesel for non-agricultural travel is an offence, even in a tractor. We have heard of people ticked off for driving an empty tractor and trailer home on the road from an implement sale, having dropped off items to sell in the sale field. ::)

I filled up on Wednesday in Telford Town Centre, not realising what was going on. There were signs out saying no diesel. My full tank will last me the month or more.
Today my friend came to see me but was very late because she had been queuing to get onto a roundabout and off on the first exit. The reason? On the opposite side of the roundabout is a Shell garage and the queue went right round it.

I am off to my sisters 60th birthday party. A 4.5 hours drive each way. Lets hope I can find some petrol along the route or else we will probably get there but won't get back.

Anyone remember YEARS ago when Sugar was very scarce. I remember being at the checkout of our local small supermarket with my mother and she was asked in a very low voice"Would you like a bag of sugar?" It was so scarce, it was only being sold to regular customers. Im sure also in years gone by, there was a loo roll shortage, although my OH cant remember this. Can anyone?

i was travelling back from coventry to alloa yesterday and i had about 350 miles worth of fuel in my tank (journey is 320) unfortunately due to traffic i didn't have enough and the fuel light came on whilst still south of glasgow so i decided to find fuel the first 2 stations i went to had no fuel and the 3rd by which point i was quite worried only had premium diesel at 161.9 i put in £10 to get home...
I'll fill up at one of the supermarkets tomorrow... hopefully.

I remember this clearly. It was early 1982 when I was expecting my younger son. His Godfather, who he was named after was mate on the sugar boats. His run was Barbados to London, unload and turn around back to Barbados. They expected to be in London overnight. Whilst the "sugar shortage" was on he had time to come down to Cornwall to visit us. Why? Because the warehouses were full and they couldn't unload ::) That was the "shortage" The price of sugar went up then and never came down!

The toilet roll shortage was in 1973/74. I was working in Woolworths' and used to take my empty roll from home and swap it for a part used one in the staff toilets. Hope no one from Woolies is reading this.

I think it was early 70s when the first sugar crisis hit cos I was still living with my parents. My mother was a hoarder (worked in london through the blitz) and a serial jam maker so she started the crisis with 117lb of sugar. That wasn't panic buying, just lousy stock control.

last week i was paying 139.9 today i paid 149.9. im about £5 a week worse off.

DITW, thats a huge increase. Is that from the same garage?
I got petrol on Sunday at £140.9 (why do they bother with the .9?) but on my journey from Wales to Surrey saw prices at 137.9 in Hampshire and it varied across the route with the highest at £148.9
Lowest prices were at Morrisons and Tesco in Fleet.

Once more we are being treated like mugs while the govermeant cashes in as usual. I still have not got fuel but will not be driving all over to try and find some. Hope my local filling station gets some soon.
