Title: Duck attacking bantham hen
Post by: wolfhnound on April 04, 2009, 09:02:06 pm
We have eight full size chickens, a bantam hen and bantam cockerill, and a pair of Cayuga ducks.

All have lived together in harmony until the last week.

Suddenly the Drake has started attacking the bantam hen, he chases her round and round until he gets her cornered then he attacks her. AT first we thought it was the little cockerill he was chasing but have realised it's the hen.

Anybody any ideas what might be causing it? It's getting to the stage where we might have to keep the bantams separate.

Your wee man is randy I'm afraid to say. It is the breeding season and it will pass eventually. Good luck.

That thought had occured to me, but why only the bantam?

The other hens are much more his size.

I can't answer that I'm afraid. When I started off I had 2 drakes who would attack us and even the dogs. They just nipped the skin of whatever they could get their beaks on to. It was funny but it could be painful.
