can anyone help please! I am new to home brewing and so far have had success with a stout kit and a few wine kits but I have a freezer draw full of frozen red currents, so I was wonder if anyone had any recipies for red current beer or wine please? ???

I'm going to bump this up as I need to clear out the freezer too and also have some frozen redcurrents....

CJ Berry has a recipie for current wine in his First Steps in Winemaking.

you could turn it into red currant vodka by putting in a big jar/bottle fill with vodka and add some sugar, keep shaking till the sugar dissolves and shake every day(ish) for 3 months.
Ive just made some with damsons, blackberries and raspberries all mixed up straight from the freezer
works with gin as well i think
but now i have to wait 3 months to drink it! :o

I just do 3lbs of red currants to 3lbs of sugar. Heat the water and sugar to boiling, add the red currants (I remove the stems but you don't have to), let them defrost to just below boiling then take off the heat and leave to cool. Once cool add your yeast, cover with a towel, and stir daily for a week. Strain into a demijohn, and leave for 6ish weeks then try it and see if its done. For a scientist my homebrewing is very unscientific!

I presume this will count as part of my ' 5-a-day'? ;)

That's what I tell myself!
