Are you a tree surgeon only or a smallholder (or aspiring one) as well?

Hiya, We have a medium sized ash tree that we need taken down (it's rotting in the middle), and another one with a sickly branch. I can deal with them once they're on the ground, but I don't fancy the felling. Could you perhaps give a quote from a photograph and a measurement of the girth?
Cheers!

Do you sell the firewood if your client doesn't want it, Paul? I've just bought a huge bag of kiln dried logs for my stove but I'm thinking ahead to next year. There may be others on here too who'd buy.
-
Hi yes we do we also sell bagged stuff but running low

Thanks, Robert. I got a load from the company I bought my fire from. Kiln dried wood is best for a multi fuel burner, certainly in the early days of its life, and it'll take me a while to get through this lot with the fine weather we've had and about to have as spring and summer approach. Got a hugey quote from the guy on the A977 (Gartlove) of £120 for a dumpy bag of new cut wood, which I can't use till it's sat for a few months and couldn't offer any kiln dried till this month, which would have been even dearer - too late for the winter we never had! Stirling Stove Centre was a lot less than that!
-
£120 bit steep i usually do the dumpy bags or should i say builders bags for £70 but if i am on a job local i do the pickup or tree load for £40 fresh cut into nice wee sizes
-
Annie you should report that bar steward to the police for fraud :o
kiln dried is from the sawmills
fresh cut wood needs to season for at least a year before using
i have split poles stored inside for the last two years in builders bags they will only be here till Thursday ;) :farmer:

He has a machine which dries the wood. I think I made a mistake - the stuff he had lying in metal grid crates wasn't new cut, it was ready to use but not in a stove. It would have been ready to use in a month or so he said.

Hi Paul
I'm just looking for someone like you ! Need some work in one of the gardens - big old sycamores etc - but also some forestry clearance, for which I'm in the process of discussing with the forestry commission.
For a big enough job, could you cover the Isle of Islay ?

We had our 3 huge trees down after one lot of winds and before the worst lot, they were laylandi and swaying towards the houses roofs so down they came and of course we had the wood for next year mixed with some lovley dry hard wood that the tree feller gave us for a branch ripping the pond....the pond is easy repaird with tape and we needed it empty until we get ducks again... I want to move our logs from the log store to the garage but its too damp in there and steve has stacked them so neatly he refues to move them..the log store would make a fantastic dog room, its dry, warm and has light!!!! one day, I shall move it!!!!!!
P.s, I thought most tree surgeons charge around the same, they all know each other round here and know what each charges.....we used to get wood from a chap across the road but hes in prison now :-\ ::)
-
Hi ref prices your right yes but there are a lot of unqualified people hacking trees down I keep my price down as I'm a small two man operation and I believe in pride of work and quality not cut the thing down chip it charge a fortune and leave not my style I give options for the job suggestions for the wood and happy customers

forgot to also say we will also beat any quote
