Title: Wanted Shearing grear

hey all

am looking for some shearing gear, getting some sheep but have only ever sheared with clippers rather than hand shears but to by the electric kit brand new is silly money for 3 ewes
thanks for any help

I would hand shear if only three sheep or get them sheared along with your local flock.

The farm supplies store in Cupar behind the motorbike shop will have them also Carrs in Milnathorpe or Robinsons of Milnathorpe. cheers

Have you tried Horner Shearing http://www.hornershearing.com/index.html (http://www.hornershearing.com/index.html) they sell motor in handpiece machines for £130.

I would def hand shear them - I find it quite enjoyable when theres only a few to do. I even did 19 by hand last year! It doesnt have to be marvellous and if a bit of a fuzzy layer stays on with hand shearing it means if the weather turns nasty they are a bit more protected (thinking of last years horrid rainy summer when most of mine ended up having to be sheared in the rain, no choice!)

i see is hand shearing easy enough to do? i learnt to shear with a hand piece and only used hand shears for dagging

If you can take your time then it is not too hard, if the sheep are right then you simply keep one blade on the skin with the other raised slightly to avoid cutting the sheep, but it is very different to the machine and is harder to learn properly.
